Southkent Veterinary Hospital will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday so our team can spend time with their families (and furry friends!).

If your pet needs medications or food refills, please plan ahead and give us a call early in the week.
We’ll reopen for regular business hours on Monday, December 1st.

🦃 Thanksgiving is a time for family, gratitude… and great food! But before you share your feast with your furry friend, make sure you know what’s safe (and what’s not) for pets!

✅ Safe in small amounts:
• Plain turkey (no skin, bones, or seasoning)
• Plain sweet potatoes or pumpkin (no added sugar or spices)
• Green beans or carrots (unsalted and unseasoned)

🚫 Keep these off your pet’s plate:
• Turkey bones, skin, or gravy
• Stuffing and casseroles (often contain onions, garlic, or butter)
• Chocolate, grapes, raisins, and anything with xylitol (found in sugar-free items)
• Alcohol or rich desserts

A little love and attention can help make sure your pet enjoys the holiday safely too! 💕

🐹✨ Surgery success story! ✨🐹

Our adorable patient Coconut the guinea pig came in recently to have a cyst removed by Dr. Kursch. The procedure went smoothly, and Coconut did great under our team’s care! 💕

We’re so glad we could help Coconut feel more comfortable and get back to doing what guinea pigs do best — snacking and squeaking for attention! 🥬💛

Southkent is a “mixed animal” veterinary practice that was started in 1949 by Dr. Wayne Finkbeiner. We have separated the farm animal from the companion animal medicine to better serve our clients and patients. Our main hospital is in Caledonia. We also have a sister location in Byron Center. The farm service veterinarians and the majority of companion animal veterinarians reside at our Caledonia location. As a veterinary hospital we strive to give the best possible medical treatment at a reasonable price!
