We are closed in remembrance
Today, we remember not only the brave soldiers who fought and fell in war, but also the animals who stood beside them through humanity’s darkest moments.
The horses who carried wounded men through smoke and shellfire.
The dogs who delivered messages across shattered battlefields.
The mules who hauled supplies through impossible terrain.
The pigeons who flew through gunfire carrying hope from one side of the front to the other.
They did not choose war.
They did not understand borders, politics, or hatred.
Yet they served with unwavering loyalty.
Millions of animals were drawn into conflicts across the world, enduring fear, exhaustion, hunger, and pain alongside the soldiers who depended on them. Many never made it home.
But their courage mattered.
In the middle of chaos and destruction, these animals became companions, protectors, and symbols of comfort for countless young men far from home. Their quiet bravery helped carry humanity through some of its most painful chapters.
Today, we honour them too.
The silent heroes with hooves, paws, and wings who gave everything without ever asking why.
May they never be forgotten. 🕊️🐴🌺
