🐾 Outdoor Adventure Safety Tips for Pets! 🏕️🐶

Spring and summer are perfect for hiking, camping, and outdoor fun with your pets! 🌿🐾 But before you hit the trails, here are some important safety tips to keep your furry friend safe on every adventure:

✅ Hydration is Key – Always bring extra fresh water for your pet and take frequent breaks to prevent dehydration. 💧

✅ Paw Protection – Hot pavement, sharp rocks, and rough trails can hurt your pet’s paws! Booties or a protective balm can help keep their paws safe. 🐾

✅ Snake Awareness – Watch for venomous snakes in wooded or rocky areas. Keep your pet on a leash, stay on marked trails, and avoid tall grass or dense brush. 🐍

✅ Bug & Parasite Protection – Fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes thrive outdoors! Make sure your pet is up to date on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. 🦟

✅ Pack a Pet First Aid Kit – Include bandages, tweezers (for ticks), antiseptic wipes, and any necessary medications. Being prepared can make a big difference! 🏥

✅ Know Your Pet’s Limits – Not all dogs are built for long hikes! Watch for signs of overheating, exhaustion, or limping, and adjust the adventure accordingly.

🌲 Adventure awaits, but safety comes first! 🌲 If you have any questions about trail safety, parasite prevention, or need a hiking health check-up for your pet, give us a call!

🐾 April 23rd is National Lost Dog Awareness Day! 🐾

Every year, thousands of pets go missing, but with the right precautions, we can help bring them home safely! 💙 Today, we’re sharing tips to prevent lost pets and why microchipping is a lifesaver.

✅ Prevention Tips:
🔹 ID Tags & Collars – Ensure your pet wears a secure collar with up-to-date ID tags.
🔹 Microchip Your Pet – A microchip is permanent identification that can help reunite you with your pet if they ever get lost.
🔹 Secure Your Home & Yard – Regularly check fences and gates for any escape routes.
🔹 Leash Safety – Always keep your pet on a leash in unfamiliar or open areas.
🔹 Spay & Neuter – Fixed pets are less likely to roam.

🐶 Did you know? Pets with microchips are over 2x more likely to be reunited with their families! If your pet isn’t microchipped yet, call us to schedule an appointment!

🐣🌸 Easter Safety Tips for Pet Owners! 🌸🐣

Easter is a time for celebration, but some holiday traditions can be dangerous for our pets! 🐾 Before you decorate or fill those baskets, keep these safety tips in mind:

🚨 Easter Hazards for Pets:
❌ Lilies – These beautiful flowers are EXTREMELY toxic to cats, causing kidney failure even in small amounts. Keep them out of your home!
❌ Chocolate & Candy – Chocolate is toxic to dogs and cats, and sugar-free treats with xylitol can be deadly. Keep Easter baskets out of reach!
❌ Easter Grass – That shiny basket filler may look fun to play with, but if swallowed, it can cause serious intestinal blockages.
❌ Live Bunnies & Chicks – While they may seem like cute Easter gifts, rabbits and chicks require long-term care and commitment. Please do not gift them unless prepared for a lifetime of responsibility!

🐾 Have a safe and happy Easter! If your pet gets into something they shouldn’t, call us right away!

Meet Sunny – Your Future Barn Buddy!

Sunny is a 7-year-old neutered male cat who’s fully vaccinated and ready for a job! He’s not much for cuddles or indoor life, but he is the perfect candidate for an outdoor mouser or barn kitty.

Sunny prefers his independence and would thrive in a quiet rural environment where he can patrol the property and do what he does best—keep the rodent population in check! He doesn’t ask for much—just some food, shelter, and space to do his thing.

If you’ve got a barn, shop, or property in need of a low-maintenance working cat, Sunny might be your guy.

Interested in giving Sunny a home with purpose?
Give us a call or stop by—we’d love to introduce you!

🐱 Protect Your Cat: Test for FeLV & FIV! 🩺

If your cat has outdoor access or you're bringing home a new kitten, testing for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is crucial! These viruses weaken the immune system, making cats more vulnerable to illness.

🔬 What are FeLV & FIV?
➡️ FeLV: A contagious virus that affects the immune system and can lead to cancer, anemia, and other serious conditions.
➡️ FIV: Often called “feline AIDS,” this virus weakens immunity, making infections harder to fight.

🚨 Symptoms to Watch For:
✔️ Weight loss
✔️ Persistent infections
✔️ Lethargy & weakness
✔️ Poor coat condition
✔️ Swollen lymph nodes

Both viruses can be silent for years, so early detection is key! Testing is quick and can help protect your cat and others.

📅 Schedule a FeLV/FIV test today to keep your feline friends safe! 🐾💙

🚨 Outdoor Cats & Poisoning Risks 🚨

If your cat roams outside, they may be exposed to hidden dangers—including mouse and rat baits, pesticides, and toxic chemicals. These poisons don’t just harm rodents; they can be deadly to your pets too!

⚠️ How Cats Get Poisoned:
🐭 Eating a poisoned rodent (secondary poisoning)
🌿 Walking through treated areas & licking their paws
🥤 Drinking from contaminated puddles or surfaces

🚨 Signs of Poisoning in Cats:
⚡ Lethargy or weakness
⚡ Drooling, vomiting, or diarrhea
⚡ Tremors or seizures
⚡ Pale gums or unusual bleeding
⚡ Difficulty breathing

❗ If your cat comes into contact with any poison, bring them to us immediately—and if possible, bring the product or label with you! This helps our veterinarians quickly determine the best treatment to save your pet’s life.

💙 Protect your pet: Keep them indoors, use pet-safe pest control, and always act fast if exposure occurs. Call us right away if you suspect poisoning!

🚨 Leptospirosis: A Hidden Danger for Pets & Humans 🚨

Did you know that standing water—like puddles, ponds, and even moist soil—can harbor a dangerous bacterial infection called Leptospirosis? This disease poses serious risks to both pets and humans, making prevention critical!

⚠️ How is Leptospirosis spread?
🐾 Pets can contract it by drinking or walking through contaminated water.
🐾 Wildlife and rodents can carry and spread the bacteria through their urine.
🐾 Humans can get infected through direct contact with contaminated water or an infected pet.

🚨 Symptoms in Pets:
⚡ Fever & lethargy
⚡ Vomiting & diarrhea
⚡ Increased thirst & urination
⚡ Jaundice (yellowing of gums/skin)
⚡ Kidney & liver damage

The good news? We vaccinate for Leptospirosis as part of our core vaccines! 💉 This simple step can protect your pet—and your family—from this dangerous zoonotic disease.

📅 Call us today to ensure your pet is up-to-date on their vaccinations! Let’s keep our furry friends and families safe. 🐶🐱💙

🐶 Kennel Cough: What Pet Owners Need to Know! 🐶

Has your dog been coughing more than usual? Kennel cough (Bordetella) is a contagious respiratory infection that can spread quickly among dogs, especially in places like boarding facilities, dog parks, and grooming salons. It’s similar to a cold in humans and is usually characterized by:

🔹 A dry, hacking cough
🔹 Gagging or retching
🔹 Runny nose or sneezing
🔹 Mild lethargy

Most cases are mild, but in some dogs—especially puppies, seniors, or those with weakened immune systems—it can lead to more serious complications. The good news? Kennel cough is preventable!

💉 Vaccination is the best defense. If your pup frequently interacts with other dogs, keeping their Bordetella vaccine up to date is key to protecting them.

🚨 If your dog is showing symptoms, keep them away from other pets and call us for guidance on care and treatment.

📞 Have questions or need to schedule a vaccine? Contact us today! 🏥🐾
