05/29/2026: A short summary of today's clinic: 19 female cats spayed and 15 male cats neutered (34 total), and all kitties that needed vaccines were vaccinated. A great lunch, (all ~20 minutes of it) with three filling salads, rolls and a wonderful chocolate cake, was provided by volunteers!

🌱 Pacific Roots

This series is a look back at where we started, a reflection of where we are today, and a glimpse into what continues to shape our future.

Before we were Pacific Steel & Recycling, we were Pacific Hide & Fur.

Our story traces back to the late 1800s, when our founder, Joe Thiebes, made his way from Germany to the United States in search of opportunity. Like many at the time, he followed the path west—eventually settling in Spokane, Washington.

What began as a small hide and fur business quickly grew alongside the region. Spokane was booming, and Pacific Hide & Fur became part of that growth. Collecting, trading, and repurposing materials long before sustainability was a common conversation.

The work was not easy. It took grit, adaptability, and a willingness to evolve with changing industries and communities. As the business grew, so did the vision, expanding beyond its original roots and laying the foundation for what would eventually become Pacific Steel & Recycling.

What has not changed?

A commitment to hard work, resourcefulness, and building something that lasts.

This is just the beginning of the story. Stay tuned as we continue to share the moments, milestones, and people that shaped Pacific into what it is today.
