We have some sad news to share today, Latte lost her c**t this afternoon, it looks like the umbillical became twisted in eutero and the foal, starved of a blood supply passed on.
Latte is a trooper, she miscarried the foal, checked it to make sure and then let us take him away to be buried on the property, she's on stall rest, is eating well and seems to be unharmed by the ordeal, so she'll be going back out with the herd tomorrow.

The real surprise is that the foal was only at about 250 days of gestation, which means she must have lost the original one we found in february last year and waited until spring to take up again.

Hopefully 2027 won't be so chaotic, but we're going to be checking the ultrasound a bit more frequently than normal.

I'm so proud of my favorite mare for how she's bounced back.

Governor Declares September 2026 as the Month of the Rocky Mountain Horse!

In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Rocky Mountain Horse Association, the RMHA Publications Committee proudly secured an official proclamation from the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky recognizing September 2026 as the Month of the Rocky Mountain Horse.

This recognition honors four decades of dedication and stewardship of the Rocky Mountain Horse — a breed deeply rooted in Kentucky’s heritage and now admired around the world.

It celebrates the beauty of the horse, the strength of our community, and the contributions our breed makes to Kentucky’s culture, tourism, and equine economy — including our International Grand Championships.

You’ll see the full proclamation in a two-page spread in our upcoming Winter/Spring magazine, beautifully photographed and designed by Cheri Prill, Stunning Steeds. Magazines will ship this week!

This is a proud moment for the RMHA. We are just getting started for an exciting year ahead!

Well, Samson has been busy, so we have some 2027 foals lined up already:

Toby's Samson x BB's Music Maker
Toby's Samson x DJ's Velvet

That second one, Samson and Velvet is going to be special, that foal will be the full sibling of the 2025 champion, Firefox.. So for those of you in the IT world, you will have to appreciate the name I have already picked out, DRs Edge or maybe DRs Chrome?

Still waiting for Latte and Layla to drop their foals for this year, I think the cold weather has them all backed up :)

Well Katie Van Slyke may have beaten us to the finish line, we'll still have the best rockies hitting the ground in as little as a day or two.

I can be sure latte will have her baby before friday becuse thats the date that the foal blankets arrive and she wouldnt want to coddle her baby and keep it warm during the arctic blast..

For those that have access to the Ranch camera system, I'm hoping to have it online in a month or so.. not in time for the last 2 foals, but in plenty of time to see them play in the pasture this spring.

Here's a picture of the only non-equine member of the ranch, she's been keeping Octavia on her toes and they seem to have become pretty good friends.

DRs Octavia - This is the kind of foal I believe will take the RMHA in to the next decade
Gaiting on a loose rein being chased by a puppy barely older than she is and listening to her mom complain that she's too far away.

Thank you Savana for putting the work in, her new owner greatly appreciates it.

Build a baby!

Ok, its slow around the barn, everyones settled in and the horses are only occasionally pretending to need a vet call, so lets hear what you all think I'm going to get in the new year.
