✨Animal Feature Monday: Shy, sweet, and special Goldie✨

Hi, I'm Goldie.
I've been living the shelter life since December, and while everyone here has been very kind to me, I'm hoping my forever family finds me soon.
I know I may not be the first cat to run up and introduce myself. The truth is, I'm a little shy. Big changes and new people can make me nervous at first, so I like to take my time getting to know someone. But if you're patient with me, you'll discover that I'm a gentle, loyal friend who loves quiet companionship and peaceful moments together. I enjoy cuddles and never hiss or scratch when I’m picked up.

I dream about having a home of my own—a cozy place where I can curl up in a sunny window, explore at my own pace, and feel safe knowing I'm loved. I don't need much to be happy. A soft bed, a kind heart, and someone to share my days with would mean the world to me. Some toys to play with would also be nice.
I do have one special need: I eat a urinary care diet to help manage my cystitis and keep me feeling healthy and comfortable. It's a small part of my routine that helps me stay my best self. I get along very well with other cats, but I do need to be fed separately.

Right now, I'm waiting for you at PetSmart on Wedgewood Lane in The Villages. If you're looking for a sweet companion who will quietly fill your home with love, I hope you'll come meet me. I've been waiting a long time, and I'd love for my next chapter to begin with you.🐈

📣If you're interested in Goldie, you can:
• Stop by PetSmart
• Fill out an adoption or foster application
• Donate to the General Fund to help pay for his special diet food

Jackie is an almost 10-year-old sweetie. She was with us at Humane Society of Sumter County a bit over 3 years ago and after getting adopted, we thought we'd never see her again. Fast forward to 3/13/26 and we received a call from Lake County Animal Shelter informing us that they had her after checking her microchip. It turns out Jackie's owner got into a bit of trouble, so we picked her up and have been trying to find her a new forever home.

She has been on a couple of short fosters to know more about her in a home environment. Here's what we've learned.

"Great getting into car and perfect in ride. Anxious for about 2 hours and paced around and investigated. Does not grab anything. Does not chew anything.

I believe Jackie had a good owner prior to having to surrender her.

Jackie slept through the night on her dog bed in our bedroom. I had to wake her up. Sleeps in a dog bed and does not try to get on furniture.
Long morning walk. Went past a few dogs with no issue. Last night we passed a dog which was very reactive.
Jackie moved toward the dog but easily redirected and no reactive behaviors. Good leash walk.

Have not heard a single noise or bark.

Sits and waits for food and water.
No resource guarding.
Likes tugging with soft toys.
Sleeps about 9-10 hours. No accidents.
Likes attention but not velcroed on you. Good with my husband.

Overall, a great dog that would fit into several types of homes."

Being a borderline senior, Jackie is very calm. She tolerates being around other dogs, but it would be best for her to be the only one in the home. She has no problems with children and let some pet her on a recent field trip to the Brownwood Square farmers market in The Villages. During playgroup days at the shelter, Jackie is in the adjacent yard, and she'll run the fence line with whichever dogs have a mind to. She does exhibit play behavior and will exchange kisses with other dogs through the fence, but she tenses up one on one with another dog when we've tried. She is one of the dogs that goes on twice-monthly pack walks and doesn't mind walking along with another dog. She's a wonderful companion waiting to soak up all the love you can give her.

If rescuing a senior is something you'd be interested in, come out to the shelter and meet Jackie. She's an absolute sweetheart. ❤️

Everybody loves Kimbo! Honestly, he's a rockstar—excellent at events, plays well with others, good inside manners, and super loving. But, Kimbo is in pain. We recently had Kimbo examined by the vet for his "icky" eyes and he needs surgery to correct a condition that causes his eyelashes to grow inward rather than outward. Ouch!

His procedure is going to cost about $2000. We are raising the money needed through our Hope Fund to get Kimbo his surgery and help him see a brighter future!
