Last night we were notified that our Microchip company, Save This Life, has unexpectedly shut down and delinked all microchip registrations from the universal microchip look up tool that all animal care professionals use to find a lost pets information when they are scanned. We have trusted this company for over 13 years and are just as disappointed as anyone. While we try to get to the bottom of what has happened we wanted to share what we believe would be the best next steps for any of our clients. The microchips are universal and can be registered again with any company so there is no need to get the pet re-microchiped.

1) Find you pet's microchip number. If you do not have it give us a call or text and we can check your record to see if it is linked to your file or set you up a time to stop by the clinic for us to scan your pet and give you that information.
2) Search your pet's microchip number on the AAHA Universal microchip look up tool to see if it is showing up as not registered or as “Possibly registered to save this life”. https://www.aaha.org/for-veterinary-professionals/microchip-search/
3) If your pet's number is showing up as not registered or “possibly registered to save this life” we recommend our clients visit https://www.freepetchipregistry.com/ to register your pet's microchip for free and ensure their safety.

We are also aware there are post circulating that this is a Scam. Please know that we have done our due diligence and confirmed that this is unfortunately true and spreading this is a scam is incredibly dangerous to the affected pets. You can verify that Save This Life phone number listed on their website no longer works and their emails bounce back immediately as well. The website will likely remain up for some time due to licensing and domain agreements but we can confirm they are no longer operating in a capacity that will save your pet if they are lost.

We are delighted to share some exciting news with you about the growth and positive changes happening at Merrick Animal Hospital.

Dr. Nathan Horowitz and Jenny Massie (Veed), our practice manager, have officially purchased Merrick from the estate of Dr. James Hosek. While we will always miss Dr. Hosek and what he brought to this practice, we are excited about carrying his legacy into the future.

We look forward to continuing to serve this community as Merrick Animal Hospital has since 1934. Our wonderful caring staff will be staying with us and will continue to provide the best care possible to your animals.

With the Holiday quickly approaching we wanted to extend some helpful tips to keep your pets safe during the festivities! Also we recommend you check on your home stock of medications that help keep your fur babies comfortable! We are asking for refill requests to be submitted by Tuesday (July 2nd) 12pm in order to have it ready in time as we will be closed on the 4th of July.

Due to the winter storm we will be closing at 12pm today so our employees who were able to make it in are able to get back home safely before the next round hits.
