Horses Will Humble You – Every Time

This weekend I showed my 3-year-old mare for the very first time. She handled being off the property like a champ, especially for her first outing—but let me tell you, I learned a lot from the experience.

At home, I always ride her in spurs and everything goes smoothly. But at the show, with nerves and adrenaline running high, I found myself rushing my cues. She was trying—but I wasn’t being clear.

So I took a breath… and I took the spurs off.
And guess what?
She listened. She responded. She settled.
We made real progress.

It was a reminder that sometimes, less is more—and that horses will always find a way to teach you something if you’re willing to listen.

I had the chance to show my stallion SHR Midnight Whizard, and while we had a couple bobbles, it was honestly one of my nicest runs on him yet!

He felt with me, honest, and ready to work—and even with the little moments that didn’t go exactly as planned, I came out of the arena smiling.

Every ride is a step forward, and this one reminded me how far we’ve come. Grateful for the journey with this talented boy and excited for what’s ahead! 💙🔥

Show Recap from North Carolina!

What an incredible show for the Lucky Z Ranch crew at our show in North Carolina! We’re so proud of our horses and riders—everyone put in the work and it showed in the arena.

👏 Warren made his show debut with Her New Sugar Daddy, our talented 3-year-old gelding. It was their first time in the reining pen together, and they did amazing! Warren is refining his finesse, and this young gelding is learning what it means to be a true show horse—bright future ahead for this team! 🔥

🌟 Zara Switts piloted her 4-year-old mare Bigstars Smart and had some truly beautiful moments. While there were a few hiccups, this mare shines every time her hooves hit the arena. Zara also showed SHR Midnight Whizard and laid down a smooth, stylish run!

💥 Mathew Hutchins took the reins on our two stallions in the Open and absolutely brought the heat. Both Whiz and Walker stayed focused and delivered fancy maneuvers with power and precision—these boys are something special!

💫 Breeding isn’t magic—it’s management, muscle, and a whole lot of patience.

From that first ultrasound to the moment we (hopefully) hear a heartbeat, here’s what really goes into getting from “let’s breed her” to “foal on the way.”

🩺 On the Mare’s Side:
✔️ Pre-breeding exams (check for infections, evaluate uterus & ovaries)
✔️ Cycle tracking & timing ovulation
✔️ Communication with your vet at every stage
✔️ Post-breeding monitoring + pregnancy checks and hormone management
✔️ Continued care through gestation (and often, emotional rollercoasters)

💣 On the Stallion’s Side:
✔️ Hormones are high—collection isn’t just “catch and go”
✔️ Teaser mare + trained handling team
✔️ Careful lab work to process and package semen
✔️ Timely shipping or insemination planning
✔️ Coordination between stallion manager, vet, and mare owner is everything

✨ It takes science, timing, teamwork, and a dash of faith.

Whether you’re breeding one mare or managing a full program—it’s never easy, never predictable, and never just luck. But when it works… oh, it’s worth every ounce of effort.
