began in 1927 as a small business in a one-room building in Brandywine, Maryland serving its immediate community with farm, garden and to***co-growing products. The business began with two brothers, Russell and Louis Cross, in partnership, as to***co buyers and owners of the feed store known as R&L Cross. In April of 1935, they were approached by Southern States Cooperative, Inc. to become a franc

hised Private Dealer carrying Southern States products. Through the years, there have been ownership changes through the family and the store was renamed to R & D Cross, Inc. after Russell and his son, David, Sr.. Currently, the store is managed by Dave Cross, Jr. and Kody Cross is the Assistant Manager. The President is Sandra Cross and her daughter, Susan Sedgwick, is Vice President. is proud to have maintained a successful presence in the community through the years. Over the years, the businesses have grown to become flourishing and successful parts of the urban/farm community, extending it’s boundaries to include the area counties in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. In addition to our farm, home and garden products, we also offers Custom Buildings where we work directly with you to create your building and the Amish craftsmanship constructs your building. With a business philosophy directed toward “Service to the Customer and Quality Products”, these family-owned businesses are proud to honor their agricultural heritage, while meeting the needs of a changing urban area. 🍂Fall is approaching🍂

Here are some fall garden tips to help your garden and landscape get ready for the changing seasons!

🍁Plant all your favorites! Now is the perfect time to plant cabbage, kale, spinach, lettuce, radishes, mums, and fall-blooming perennials.

🍁Give your lawn some attention. Aerate, reseed, and apply fall lawn food to help keep your lawn healthy throughout the fall and winter months.

🍁Bring your houseplants inside. Before bringing them in from their summer vacation outside, be sure to check them over carefully so you don't bring any unwanted insects into your home.

🍁Hold off on pruning spring perennials. Don't be too tempted to prune them just yet! Pruning at the wrong time can remover next year's flower buds. It is best to wait until the flowers have fully wilted and faded.

🍁Update your garden records. Take note on your successes and failures, what you tried for the first time this year, and any landscaping changes you made. You'll thank yourself when planting next year's garden.

🍁Don't forget to water! Give your landscape plants a good drink and add a layer of mulch before the winter cold sets in.
