The leaves changed color and we added some to our herd! 🍁🐴 Last month we welcomed two beautiful boys, Gizmo and Charger, and their moms, Harper and , to our barn family! It’s been nothing but cuteness overload watching them explore their new home and make new friends.

This sweet boy has been with us for a couple of weeks now and is already loved by all. After 1.5yrs of sitting in a field post track, Chance finally found his person and she brought him home to us. ❤️ We are excited to officially welcome him and his new mom Toya to the Downing Ranch family!

After getting new farm equipment last week Jonathan Downing has been working nonstop on what will be a new outdoor arena, round pen and XC course/track. He casually started making some neat little forest trails in the back of our property too (because that’s the fun part, he says 😅), so last night we got to saddle up these two boys and took them on a first short field trip to explore the area together. Recruited our friendly neighbor to help us capture this moment - Thanks, David! 😊 It’s all coming together nicely and we can’t wait to share more on our coming projects with you guys soon! It’s going to be an exciting spring/summer season at the Downing Ranch! 🐎🐎

Maybe you live and/or work in the big city and drive the short distance out to our Ranch in Brandywine; or maybe you live in the local area and experience country life every day.
Either way, if you love being outdoors and want to take your horse on trail rides, our location offers many great options for you.
Whether you just want to relax going for a walk on the surrounding country roads and ride along the countless fields and vineyards (please always be respectful of other people's private property) or trailer to one of the many nearby State Parks that offer miles and miles of Equestrian trails, you can have it all, just take your pick:

Cedarville State Forest (19.5 miles of marked trails) - 13.2mi
Prince George's Equestrian Center - 14mi
Maxwell Hall Park Equestrian Area (14 miles of diverse riding trails; open fields, wooded areas, steep terrain, shoreline, beach rest locations) - 14.7mi
Oak Ridge Park (7 miles of wooded equestrian trails and two show rings) - 17.7mi
Kings Landing Park - 31mi
Friendship Farm Park (horses are allowed on portions of the trail from April – November) - 35.5mi

We support local businesses and the amazing people in our neighborhood! The extra friendly service is always greatly appreciated and this way we can ensure good quality and a constant supply. So yesterday we stocked up on some 80 bales, filling up our hay loft for all the hungry hippos in the barn 🐴 🥰

A small sample of all our recent renovation projects...

Our stalls are now equipped with perfectly aligned, 3/4" thick rubber mats on top of a solid and even stone dust foundation.

The arena got a new wall and paint and so did the barn itself, with windows being cut out, fans put up and saddle racks built and installed by my craftly husband.

Coming up next: Installing an automatic waterer system, building a round pen and hanging hooks and hardware for everyday use.
