I had to visit the ophthalmologist because I have a corneal ulcer that won't heal.

I did not like them doing all the eye tests. I did not like them doing a procedure on my eye so it will start to heal. And I do not like this cone!

I made sure everyone knew I was not happy. Though I am secretly happy that I got this excellent care so my eye will get better.

Bella is a Foster Success. Her foster family adopted her. She gets a fenced yard, active humans, and a few dog siblings. Thank you Sam & Nate for opening your hearts and home to foster and adopt Bella.

Bella came to us from our WVA rescue friends after she has been surrendered to a rural dog pound. We knew the limited we met Bella that she was a fantastic young senior dog.

We treated Bella for parasites, did bloodwork on her, and gave her a dental surgery.

Bella, we know you are going to live a busy, active, and loving life your new family.

I'm staying with my doctor and her people today at Crescent Ridge Veterinary Hospital. I like that it's so calm here.

They are going to figure out what is causing my severe tummy issues and hopefully get me feeling better.

I am incredibly grateful for all of the SHRR geriatric dog experienced Partner Vets who make time in their busy schedules to care for us old sick dogs emergently.

Oh- if anyone would feel so inclined, we are in need of some basics at my HQ foster home.

Welcome Goose.

This 14ish yr young chi mix came to us through our Home to Home program. His owner had rescued him from another family member. Then she reached out for help with him.

Good boy Goose is friendly and sweet. Thank you Trevor for intake work. Thank you repeat fosters Bob & Cate for opening your hearts and home to foster.

Goose has never been to a vet in the 14 yrs of his life.

He is thin, has horribly rotten teeth, has back end weakness, and is not neutered. He seems to have significant urinary issues. He will be at our vet tomorrow for his initial medical workup. We are crossing all paws that what is discovered can be repaired.

My BFF Pancake urgently went to the doctor yesterday. So I thought today it would be my turn despite it being a holiday.

I have some extreme tummy issues that started yesterday evening. I will spare you the gory details.

SHRR took me to this new UrgentVet in McCandless. Everyone there was so nice. I got triaged and examined.

They let me sit with my favorite person, my foster dad, for fluids. I got some medicine injected and medicine sent home.

I'm going to be spending the day at my primary care doctor office Crescent Ridge Veterinary Hospital tomorrow.

Hey friends. I know how much everyone loves a pancake 🥞. So I need to share my news from today.

First and foremost, I am extremely grateful for the extraordinary geriatric dog experienced Partner Veterinarians that work with SHRR and us elderly gals. SHRR and their vets have outstanding relationships and processes to ensure that when one of us elderly gals gets emergently ill, we are immediately able to get high quality medical care.

Thank you Dr. Bollens and the team at North Boros Veterinary Hospital for fitting me in when my mum, the founder of SHRR, called this morning and said I wasn't doing well.

See, a few months again I was diagnosed with a very large heart and a moderate heart murmur. I didn't think that was a new thing because everyone always said I had a big heart. Anywho, I was started on some heart medicine at that time.

But these senior dog people knew that could mean I might end up in heart failure sooner than later.

This morning I was supposed to be barking and begging for breakfast which I wasn't doing. My mum noticed I was breathing deeply. In the old dog world they call that belly breathing. Then she sat on the floor with me and pulled out her phone preset to the timer to count my resting respiration rate. It was high.

She immediately called my veterinary team. They fit me in on a holiday weekend.

After a full exam and X-rays, I was diagnosed as being in heart failure. I was sent back home with more medicines.

I will be optimistic that my heart disease can get stabilized and I will be able to keep having a great quality of life for a long time. But I wouldn't mind you sending me all the good juju.

Each dog resides in a family home being treated as a beloved pet. SHRR retains ownership of the dog, provides ongoing medical & preventative care, and stewardship over the dog's quality of life.

I had my annual little old man doctor visit. Can you even believe I've been in the ownership and care of these old dog gurus at SHRR for one year? I didn't even get any prezzies.

What I did get was vaccinations, my p*e stolen, my blood pressure checked and an extensive senior dog exam.

I came into the ownership of SHRR from my friends at Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh. I had and still have A LOT of ongoing health issues. I have chronic urinary tract infections, high blood pressure, stage 2 kidney disease, and protein losing nethropathy, protein loss through my kidneys.

SHRR's geriatric dog guru Partner Vets have worked hard to get all of my chronic diseases manageable. It requires seeing the doctor regularly, getting testing done regularly, and taking medications. I promise I'm a good boy for all of that.

Thank you to the good doctors and their team at Rivers Veterinary Urgent Care for taking exemplary care of me and managing all of my chronic diseases.

Mia, on the right, found her furever home. She gained a dog sibling, people that take great medical care of their pets, and 80 acres of land to explore! Our senior Australian shepherd got exactly what we ordered for her. Thank you Kim & Jay for opening your hearts & home for Mia.

Mia came to us through our Home to Home program. Her owner was very ill. He passed shortly after Mia came into our ownership and care.

It was evident that this wonderful dog had been greatly loved. She has a wonderful personality and was friendly with any animal or human we had her around.

Mia had her senior wellness checkup and bloodwork at one of our Partner Vets. She was started on preventatives and management for mild arthritis.

Most importantly Mia got some exercise and started to enjoy walks with her foster mum Shannon. Shannon loved this great dog and helped guide as to the best type of family for Mia. Thank you Shannon for helping another senior dog.

Mia your late dad is watching over you and at peace knowing that you are going to have a fantastic rest of life.
