We are excited to announce the upcoming arrival of our new (2026) GE Maxima 128-slice CT scanner at Veterinary Medical Center at Lakewood Ranch! 🎉

This advanced imaging technology allows us to obtain incredibly detailed images even faster, helping our doctors diagnose and treat patients with even greater precision and efficiency.

Our new 128-slice CT provides:
• Faster scan times
• Exceptional image quality
• Advanced 3D imaging capabilities
• Improved evaluation of neurologic, orthopedic, thoracic, abdominal, oncologic, and complex emergency cases

For many patients, this means quicker answers, better treatment planning, and less time under anesthesia.

We are committed to continuing to invest in advanced technology and specialty-level care so we can provide the highest level of medicine possible for our patients and referring veterinarians throughout our community.

Thank you to our Diagnostic Imaging team for their support in helping to make this happen. We are excited for what this new addition will bring to our hospital and the pets we serve. 🩵

Check your plants! The ASPCA is a great resource when you aren’t sure what’s toxic and what’s not! Here is a list of a few common non-toxic and toxic plants. Sago Palms are very poisonous and in a lot of Florida yards. Check your yard and check the list!

🌿 Not all plants are pet-safe!

Pets love to sniff, chew, and explore, so it’s important to make sure the plants in your home won’t harm them if nibbled. While many are harmless, some can pose serious risks.

Our experts at ASPCA Poison Control have put together a guide to help you spot safe vs. dangerous plants so you can decorate with peace of mind: Read more here: https://bit.ly/3UgncN3

This pup came in with a broken leg, and Dr. Lucia Cresci and Kyle from our emergency team took such good care of him from the moment he walked through the door. He's doing great and well on his way to a full recovery 💙

We had such a great time at Woofstock. From pup cups to belly rubs, it was so special getting to meet so many of you (and your pets!) out in the community.

VMC is committed to patient safety ❤️

A great Patient Safety Awareness Week milestone. 🧡

Last week I had the privilege of onboarding Veterinary Medical Center at Lakewood Ranch to Critical Signal as they strengthen their patient safety and incident reporting process.

VMC is an exciting addition not only because they bring together GP, ER, and specialty care, but also because they are our first hospital utilizing Critical Signal in a general practice setting.

What I especially respect about this team is that they already had a reporting process in place, but recognized its limitations and chose to do more. They made the intentional decision to move toward a system that can better support learning, trend recognition, and meaningful action.

That is what patient safety leadership looks like.

Safer care starts with teams willing to improve the system, not just document the problem.

Help Us Save Pets in Need

At the Veterinary Medical Center at Lakewood Ranch, we sometimes meet pets whose families are facing heartbreaking financial hardship. The Colby Animal Foundation, a NEW 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was created to help these animals receive the life-saving care they need when their families cannot afford treatment.

Your donation can help provide emergency surgery, critical care, medications, and other treatments that give pets a second chance.

❤️ Every donation goes directly toward helping animals in need.

Donations can be made at the front desk of the Veterinary Medical Center or via the QR code in the comments.

Follow The Colby Animal Foundation page for updates on the pets whose lives have been changed because of your generosity.

Beginning Tuesday, March 24th, the Veterinary Medical Center at Lakewood Ranch will begin offering scheduled outpatient ultrasound appointments with our board-certified radiologist, Dr. Wilson.

This service allows referring veterinarians and pet owners to schedule a dedicated appointment time for their pet’s ultrasound.

How it works:
• Your pet will have a set appointment time for their ultrasound.
• Dr. Barclay, one of our staff doctors, will meet with you briefly to review your pet’s history and ensure we have all necessary information.
• Your pet will then have the ultrasound performed by Dr. Wilson.
• Dr. Barclay will review the results with you the same day as your appointment.

This streamlined process allows us to provide efficient imaging and same-day discussion of results.
