Converse Taxidermy Converse Taxidermy is a family owned business in Upstate NY. Owned and operated by Robert Converse Jr. himself, a lifelong hunter and outdoor enthusiast!

I am a lifelong hunter and outdoor enthusiast. I also have a trapping background where I developed my skinning talents at a young age. I have a deep appreciation for wildlife and I know what a trophy means to the hunter. I study animals constantly in their natural environment and in my shop. Study and practice has greatly enhanced my ability to create a life like mount. I have over twenty-five yea

rs of experience and have done over nine hundred deer mounts. This experience combined with 100% hands on by myself only, is the perfect recipe for a finished product that looks like you should have to feed it. I concentrate on fur bearing species so it’s never a “get them out the door” production run. I reserve time and patience for quality…

This was Amy's first Deer. Her husband Daryl Ortlieb took a really nice video of her taking it. My first Deer was also a 3 pointer. I remember distinctly what a thrill that was for me. Above and beyond size, score and bragging rights, a trophy is what it means to each person.

Really nice 8 pointer and big bodied Deer. A lot of blemishes from fighting,...nothing you can do about that. The good side is that he has been competing with other Bucks, so that means there's more like him in the area.

I should have recently finished mounts starting the end of this week.
This is my second good Buck. Taken during the 1984 season. I was 22 years old. Another 125 inch class Buck. This was also a tracking situation. Long story short,..I was on his track. I made a sweep, arc, off the track in an attempt to get ahead of him. I did just that and met him angling towards me at about thirty yards. I hit him with the first and third shot from my Wi******er model 100, .308 Both shots went through the heart tearing it to shreds. The Buck still ran about a hundred yards before slowing, staggering and collapsing. To this day I have never seen such a blood trail. It was as wide as a skidder road, making S turns down the ridge to where he expired. No, I wasn't wearing a black leather jacket hunting. That was for the victory lap celebration. I did advance to Army issue northern woodland camo which was readily available at garage sales due to the Base being in Rome then. You could find them for a couple of dollars. Keep in mind, back then when I got my first good one in 1980, a Buck like that was considered your once in a lifetime Buck from most veteran hunters at the time,...times were changing and they continued to.

I don't have a mount finished recently for today. They will be coming soon. I just got a batch of capes in this week. I figured, why not tell a story while I can. This is my first good Buck, taken during the 1980 season. I was 18 years old. It's a 125 class very typical 8 pointer. Taken with my Great Grandfather's Wi******er 94. I jumped him and a Doe on my Grandfather's property. I didn't see them but I saw the large track with the average track. Long story short, I ran a mile with 8 inches of fresh snow to where I thought I could cut them off. Imagine running in the old felt lined pack boots and a heavy Woolrich red plaid jacket, blue jeans. I didn't run in a straight line but an arc to the outside of where I thought the Deer would travel in an attempt to get in front of them. I came to the creek crossing, which was kinda a pinch point for Deer travel. There was one set of tracks already went through, the Doe, so I quickly took cover sitting up against and under the boughs of a small hemlock tree. A half hour later the Buck came down the steep bank and jumped the stream about thirty yards in front of me. I shouldered the old 30-30 and the best shot I had was broadside in mid air when he jumped the creek. The shot left him in a pile on the other side of the creek. The bullet hit the underside of the backbone, directly into the spinal cord, fragmented and went like bird shot through the lungs and heart. The Buck never even twitched. That's when the hooten and hollering of a party of one started.

Really nice heavy bodied Buck mounted on a McKenzie 4600, full sneak head up series. Nice pose if you are looking for a trailing up a Doe or sneaking through heavy cover look.

Technically a legal 8 pointer. When they are in the typical location it's hard not to call them a point.
I have mounted quite a few Adirondack Bucks for the Brown family. They are honorable hard hunters of the big woods.
