Happiest Thursday to all the Lab lovers out there!
I just wanted to take a moment to share a few thoughts as a breeder.
Breeding, when done the right way, is hard work. You worry constantly, lose sleep, obsess over every little detail, hire a sitter even when you can barely afford it, and pay expensive vet bills for things that often turn out to be nothing. But you also get the incredible joy of filling other homes with four-legged love, endless snuggles, that irresistible puppy breath, and the deep bond that only Labs seem to form with people. In my opinion, Labradors are one of the most amazing, intelligent, and emotionally in-tune breeds there is.
I’ve been breeding for several years now, and I still don’t claim to be an expert. As a single parent, this work has not only helped put food on the table—it has also taught my children responsibility, hard work, and the true meaning of having a four-legged family member.
Dogs and puppies are a huge undertaking. They’re like having another child. They cost money, they need regular vet care, and sometimes they develop issues no one could have predicted. I’m always happy to talk with anyone about my Labs.
When I post that we have one puppy left, it’s not a desperate plea—it’s simply letting people know. Usually it happens because someone had to back out for unfortunate reasons, like in this case. I do not discount my puppies. Prices typically range from $2,700 to $3,000, depending on the stud used, stud fees, and many other factors. I wouldn’t expect anyone to accept less in their paycheck, and most people would be offended if their boss suddenly decided to pay them half. Breeding is part of my livelihood. If the price doesn’t work for you after I’ve shared it, a simple “thank you” or no reply at all is perfectly fine—snide comments aren’t necessary.
