Well we have been dealing with cheatgrass season on high lately! These are very nasty this year, we have seen them internally try to work it's way into a dogs abdomen, to ears, paws, and now tonsils! Here we have a video of Dr.Marji extracting cheatgrass from the pockets of the tonsils while the dog is under anesthesia. Several pieces were extracted. Make sure you are checking your pets after outdoor adventures!

We are sorry for not posting for a while, unfortunately our staff has been taking turns being down with the sickness. 🤢 But now we're up and need to talk about parasites! In the video, we had a case of severe ear mites, here you can see adults and eggs.

Ear mites are microscopic parasites that cannot fly or jump but can crawl -contagious with close contact.

Typically cats are the ones we see that have ear mites, while possible, we rarely see dogs with ear mites.

Indoor and outdoor cats can get ear mites.

Signs of ear issues include scratching at ears (sometimes scratch eyes trying to reach ears), shaking head/ear, dark brown/black debris, and bad odor.

The way to diagnose ear mites is by doing a cytology which is what we are seeing in the video above.

The way to treat them is to do a cleaning and to treat with an antiparasitic such as nexgard!
