We are sorry for not posting for a while, unfortunately our staff has been taking turns being down with the sickness. 🤢 But now we're up and need to talk about parasites! In the video, we had a case of severe ear mites, here you can see adults and eggs.

Ear mites are microscopic parasites that cannot fly or jump but can crawl -contagious with close contact.

Typically cats are the ones we see that have ear mites, while possible, we rarely see dogs with ear mites.

Indoor and outdoor cats can get ear mites.

Signs of ear issues include scratching at ears (sometimes scratch eyes trying to reach ears), shaking head/ear, dark brown/black debris, and bad odor.

The way to diagnose ear mites is by doing a cytology which is what we are seeing in the video above.

The way to treat them is to do a cleaning and to treat with an antiparasitic such as nexgard!

While we are currently watching the exploration with Artemis ll, let's remember the animals that paved the way in space ...

While we are currently watching the exploration with Artemis ll, let's remember the animals that paved the way in space exploration and also be reminded that animal testing is beyond unethical, unacceptable, and unnecessary.

Laika was the first dog in space, she was a soviet stray dog, the first animal to orbit earth on the Sputnik 2, unfortunately she did not survive this mission.

Fèlicette was the first and only cat to be launched in space by France and successfully recovered, however was euthanized 2 months after the space mission for brain studies.

Albert ll was a rhesus monkey and first primate in space, however passed upon impact.

Ham and Enos successfully flew in the Mercury program, Ham retired to a zoo and lived until 1983 but unfortunately Enos passed a year after the mission.

There were also soviet tortoises that were the first animals to circle the moon however they were euthenized and disected for studies.

May we remember and honor these animals and as humans, do better. These animals deserved better, all animals deserve better.

This is a great example of what we mean by "confirmation" x-rays when we explain our single take radiographs with our dental cleanings. The above radiographs are to check to make sure we have extracted all the roots from the teeth. When a tooth is extracted, all roots should be removed completely to avoid chronic pain, to prevent severe infection and avoid future oral health complications. #
