💙 Our sweet 2-year-old grandson is facing neurosurgery in just 3 weeks. 💙
Many of you know me through my love of cats and the beautiful community we’ve built here. Today, I’m asking for a different kind of support — for my family.
My grandson, Jackson Valenti, has been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation Type 1 and is scheduled to undergo neurosurgery at CHOP. Over the past year, he has endured hospital visits, MRIs with sedation, and testing that no little child should have to experience.
We were incredibly grateful to recently learn that his most recent study - a 24-hour EEG showed no seizures or abnormal brain activity. This was a reassuring step — but surgery is still necessary due to an increase in fluid buildup in his spinal canal (called a syrinx).
As grandparents, watching someone so small face something so big is heartbreaking. His parents are focused on being by his side through surgery and recovery, while managing medical expenses, travel, and time away from work.
