We have a little treat lined up for ya’ll while we’re in this period of hibernation…

1. We are slowly adding more Off the Rack collars to the website. Instead of huge batches every few months, we are trying to add smaller amounts weekly. If you’re the kind of person who needs instant gratification, check back often and see what new surprises* we’ve added 😉

2. Custom orders re-open mid-late July and, when they do, prices will go up (10% more for anything ordered through the website, 25% more for full custom designs that involve artist feedback/drawing). This is to reflect the extra labor involved in making a custom product (which often takes twice as long as the same exact design made for Off the Rack). But it seems unfair to spring that on so many of you who are waiting to order so…

Keep in mind that your order will not begin getting made until we start production again in late July, and that’s when the 4-6 week turn around clock begins ticking. So it will be an extra long wait.

Also, this applies only to orders that you can order through the website… full custom designs that involve us making sketches or multiple emails back and forth do not apply. We can begin those conversations now, but your order cannot be entered until July, and the cost will be at the new price.

* we will be taking Off the Rack requests. What does that mean? Well, tell us what your dream collar would be (“I would die for a Hoshi 14-16” chocolate/silver with blue rhinestone òmbre”) and you might just see it pop up in the Off the Rack section… 🤫

It’s Pride month, and we generally do some sort of promotion/fundraiser in honor of it, but this year we have too many things going on behind the scenes to coordinate that (so all you get is this giant rainbow collar). However, we can’t let the month just pass by without acknowledging its importance to us. 100% of the staff at Paco are q***r/trans/gay. We love what we do, and we have pride in our work. When you buy a Paco, you are supporting the q***r community, and we thank you for that. If you choose not to… well, you’re then really missing out because it turns out gay people make the best damn dog collars out there 😉 Happy Pride month, ya’ll! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🌈✨🌟

As we embark on this new chapter in the business, we want to send a heartfelt thank you to all the crew, customers, friends, and dogs in the Bay Area who have supported us over the years. Change is bittersweet, and while we are excited to be more centrally located in the East (Tennessee) we are also so sad to say goodbye to Berkeley.

The business was born 23 years ago in the East Bay. For a heartbeat we even named the designs after the streets in the West Oakland neighborhood where we started, just to always give homage to our East Bay roots (though we quickly realized it was easier to name the designs after the dogs that inspired them… much easier to remember).

We’ve moved all over the bay, working out of warehouses, shipping containers, basements, and garages, but the storefront on Shattuck in Berkeley has always felt like home. With great visibility, proximity to Berkeley Bowl, and the vibrant operating in back, it’s a great location (even though many passerby’s thought we were a drug front because how could there be a store that survived off off only selling dog collars? 🤔😂).

What many local customers don’t know, is that we make the bulk of our sales traveling to various dog events. We’ve been doing that for years, but have been limited in our reach as the majority of dog events are on the east coast and we’ve been having to fly there (which isn’t cheap!). From our new home base, we have the opportunity to travel to many more shows and reach a larger audience. Heck, this year we were able to attend Westminster, a dream two decades in the making, simply because we could drive there!

We (Rath and Ana) have been living in Tennessee since last summer. At first we wanted to try and maintain the storefront in Berkeley while trying out the new business model of adding more shows, but time showed us that it just made more sense to centralize everything in our new home. So we built a building on our land where we will house production and a showroom, very much like the Berkeley store. Once we’re up and running (hopefully by July 🤞🏽), folks will be able to come by and shop in person.

We are gonna miss you, Berkeley ❤️

Tuesday the 22nd is also the last day you’ll be able to order custom for a few months, so if you’ve been slacking on putting in that order, hop to it!

Any collars left after the sale will make a journey from Tennessee to California and will be for sale at the shop 20% off in person, April 29 - May 15. Last day the Berkeley store will be open is May 15.

Even if you don't need to buy anything, come visit us and say goodbye! In so many ways we are heartbroken to leave this space, but it's necessary in order to move into the next phase of our business.

Big changes to the way we do custom...

Did you know it takes sometimes twice as long to produce a custom collar versus a backstock collar? Even if it's the exact same design, it's the process of checking and double checking every single detail, at every step of the process, sending it back if it's not perfect, etc. We absolutely love making you the perfect collar for your dog, but as we expand our show lineup, we need to be more strategic about our time and resources.

Here's what to expect

• online custom orders will re-open mid-July for two weeks

• after that, custom orders will be open roughly every other month, for two weeks at a time (though we will have an extended open order period around holiday time because we know y'all need your gifts!)

• there will be a price increase on custom products to reflect the extra labor

• we will always take custom orders in-person at shows

• we are always available to help you plan your custom order, even if the custom order window is not open (so that you're ready when it opens!)

Off the Rack will also be changing...

• we will increase the frequency and regularity of new items being added to the site (ie. you know to head to website Thursday afternoon for the new drop!)

• we will be making your requests! Even during times that customs aren't open, if you holler and let us know what your dream collar would be, we happen to have a blank that fits your specs, we might just make it and add it to drop that week. Who doesn't love gambling 😉

• since it will always be impossible to online-list all the collars we have on hand at any given time, you can always call/email/message/DM/passenger pigeon to see if we have something in stock that fits your needs. Chances are good that we do!

This week we’re near Chicago with the agility dogs, next week we’ll be in Alabama with the frisbee dogs (rain or shine!).

We’ve gotten a lot of new followers lately so figured it was a good time review how to build the perfect collar for your dog…

✨Step One: Pick your design!✨

Head to the website Pacocollars.com > Custom Products

Find a design that captures your dog’s essence and speaks to you. Try to look past the colors shown in the product image as the same design can look vastly different in another leather or stone color.

✨Step Two: Neck Size✨

We base our sizing off the dog’s actual neck size, not the entire length of the collar.

Grab a measuring tape, your dog, or a collar that fits your dog well. Follow the instructions on our FAQ page (About > FAQ).

If measuring a quick release collar, measure from the open end to the base of the “teeth” (so omit the part that disappears when you click it closed).

✨Step Three: Pick your leather color✨

Choose black, chocolate, or tan leather.

We use high quality látigo leather, the same used in horse tack, that is meant to last years and just look better with age.

Safe for swimming!

✨Step Four: Pick your hardware finish✨

Does your dog look better in silver or brass?

If your dog has warm tones, brass is the way to go, while nickel matches dogs with cool tones.

✨Step Five: Choose your stone color✨

We’ve got a full spectrum of colors and finishes to suit your desired look.

Is your dog flashy? Choose rhinestones. Are they demure? Choose moonstones. A badass? Pick all studs. A cowgirl? Aqua marbled gemocite.

✨Step Six: We handcraft your custom collar from scratch and ship it to you!✨

When your order goes in, we will literally cut it from the hide, bevel and dye the edges, punch all the holes, attach hardware with rivets, decorate it to your specs, all by hand, no machinery.

“Hi there- the collar just came in this weekend. It is so beautiful and fits Sid’s handsome personality so well.

I ordered the collar after much pining on your website and Instagram (since 2020!) and it came out better than I had imagined. After the order went in my gf and I got news that Sid was suffering from a rare tumor in her spine- inoperable due to the location.

I had thought that the collar would give her years of use, but who knows now. Either way - let your customers know not to wait. They won’t regret it.
