In 1923, a Scotch Collie mix named Bobbie was traveling with his family from Oregon to Indiana.

Somewhere in Indiana, he became lost.
His family searched everywhere, but he was gone.

Six months later, a thin and limping Bobbie scratched at his family’s door in Silverton, Oregon.

He had walked more than 2,500 miles to get home.

Along the way, people remembered feeding him, sheltering him for a night, or simply watching a determined dog trot past, always heading west.

Bobbie’s story became a national sensation, and he remains a symbol of loyalty and perseverance.

He reminds us that the love we give our pets becomes their compass. When we care with presence, patience, and trust, we create a bond that guides them home in every sense of the word.

In 1942, a scrappy mixed-breed dog named Chips was volunteered by his family to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Part German Shepherd, part Husky, and part Collie, Chips wasn’t bred for battle.
But his instincts, heart, and courage told a different story.

Assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division, Chips served as a sentry and scout across North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and France.

His most famous moment?
Charging a hidden enemy machine gun nest alone and forcing four soldiers to surrender.
He came out injured… but wagging.

For his bravery, Chips was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, and Purple Heart.
But because of military rules, those honors were later revoked.

Still, his story lives on.

Because Chips didn’t need medals to be remembered.
He just needed someone to notice his quiet courage.

You love the photo.
But did your dog love the moment?

Today is National Dog Photography Day, and we’re here to share something most guides skip:
Some dogs feel anxious around cameras because of how they work and how we behave when we use them.

Big lenses can feel threatening.
Shutter clicks can trigger startle.
And when we rush to “get the shot,” our tone and tension change.

Today’s post unpacks why camera shyness is real, and how you can make photo moments feel safe, calm, and even joyful.
