🥶❄️CAT WINTER SHELTERS AVAILABLE 🥶❄️

This weekend around 15 volunteers helped us build 96 winter cat shelters to distribute to the community for free. These are nice shelters designed to last, and keep the cats warm all winter. We want to give a special shout out the Amerian Plastics Company for donating the containers and to New Nexxus group for helping put them together, especially Trent Storm Lamers!

Here are some important tips:

- the shelters come pre loaded with straw. ONLY use straw no matter how tempting it may be to put a blanket in, as a cat can freeze against a cold wet blanket. The straw insulates and repels moisture. Stuff it with as much straw as possible for the cat to bed down.

- keep extra straw aroud and check the shelter regularly for bugs, cat potty etc and change out the straw.

- keep the opening from direct wind if you can

- if you have electricity nearby the the best setup is to mount a heat lamp to point towards to the shelter, it will also keep food and water from melting. This is at your own risk, we’ve never had a fire start, but you need a safe and effective distance between the lamp and shelter.

- the shelter tops are red. If you prefer to conceal it better, you can spray paint the top black. Allow plenty of time for the top to dry because the cat will not use it with heavy paint smell.

How to get yours:

We are volunteers and so we will do our best to accommodate however, we won’t be able to strictly watch over pickup or availability. 96 shelters will go quick. First come, first serve.

🙏 We don’t have capacity to keep a wait list or to wait long periods for you to pick up and hold the shelter. Once given the address, you need to pick up within 24-48 hours.

Nugget is a lovable little goofball with energy to spare and a heart full of joy. She adores romping around with her foster siblings, feline and canine, and isn’t shy about inviting everyone into playtime. She also has a hilarious mothering streak and insists on giving her friends “mandatory bath time,” whether they asked for it or not. After she’s gotten her zoomies out, Nugget transforms into a sweet cuddlebug who’s happiest snuggled up, purring away, and making plenty of biscuits. She’s equal parts playful and nurturing, and she’s ready to bring her big personality and even bigger heart to her forever home. Meet Bindi, she is a friendly, affectionate girl who adores snuggles and isn’t shy about showing her happiness. When she’s content, she’ll proudly “make biscuits” on anything within reach. She gets so blissfully into her scratches that she sometimes tips right over, a little quirk that only makes her more lovable. Bindi loves being part of the action and will happily follow her people from room to room, curious and content just to be near you. It's been a great year! To just share a few of our successes, 2025 has seen almost a hundred petco adoptions, over 150 winter shelters made to keep cats warm in the cold, a wickedly successful Wicked Whiskers Fundraiser, a hoarding case that saved starving kittens in an abandoned house, and countless adoption affairs like at the Bentonville Square. We are so thankful for our communities support this year and every year.

We recently reached out to an adopter for an update on Kai, a cat found in the freezing cold one night by a farmer. How he’s doing now makes us so happy to hear.

🐾 Kai’s Story: From Mud to Motorcoach Trips

Late one rainy night, a farmer brought a small black-and-white kitten to Mew Cat Rescue. The kitten wasn’t feral, but he was in bad shape—shivering, soaked, and covered in mud and diarrhea.

One of our volunteers quickly cleaned him up and gave him a warm place to rest, but his condition was serious.

From there, he went into care with one of Mew’s fosters who did an incredible job caring for him and his health issues. The biggest challenge was that the poor little guy had uncontrollable bowels (hence the condition he was found in). He spent multiple days at the vet on fluids before he slowly began to recover.

In February, he was adopted by a wonderful family who had just lost their cat at almost 19 years old. Now named Kai, he’s the peacemaker in their family of four cats and a dog, and everyone absolutely loves him.

He now travels the country in their motorcoach with his best cat buddy Junior. Junior loves having Kai with him – they get all the attention!

From a storm to a life of adventure, his story is why we rescue. Help us meet our goal of raising $10,000 on GivingTuesday, so we can help create more happy endings like his.

On GivingTuesday, your donations make a huge impact on rescues like ours. Animal non-profits in Northwest Arkansas have been significantly impacted over the past few years due to changing dynamics in our region.

There has been an influx of animals from outside the area and state, which has affected the number of adoptions and the donations coming in. This threatens our local animal population and the help they so desperately need.

Help us continue our work saving the lives of local cats and supporting people in need. Your donations go toward critical vet care, supplies, microchipping, and programs like Mew Cares.

Today’s $10,000 goal is a stretch. We don’t know if we’ll achieve it, but every act of kindness adds up. We’re currently 30% of the way there!
