🚨 What you NEED to know about Bobcat Fever (Cytauxzoonosis) 🚨
This is NOT something to scroll past.
We are already seeing astronomical numbers of cases in our area for this time of year… and once a cat gets Bobcat Fever, survival is very rare. 💔
Let’s talk about what matters most:
PREVENTION.
🐾 What is Bobcat Fever?
It’s a deadly disease spread by ticks—most commonly the Lone Star tick—that attacks a cat’s blood cells and organs.
And here’s the scary part…
👉 These ticks don’t just sit and wait.
They HUNT.
They actively seek out a host—your cat.
⚠️ Important truths every cat owner needs to hear:
• Keeping your cat indoors is the BEST protection 🏡
BUT… it is NOT a guarantee.
Ticks can be brought inside on dogs, humans, or clothing.
• Once infected, cats often decline very quickly (lethargy, fever, not eating, hiding).
By the time symptoms show… it may already be too late.
🛡️ How to PROTECT your cat:
✔️ Seresto collars (properly fitted)
Right now, this is considered the most effective prevention because it REPELS ticks before they bite.
⚠️ It MUST be snug enough to work correctly.
⏳ Lasts up to 8 months per manufacturer.
✔️ Check your pets regularly
Even indoor cats. Even “just for a second” outdoor time.
✔️ Be mindful of exposure
Ticks can hitch a ride inside on dogs, shoes, clothes, or anything that’s been outside.
🚫 What many people don’t realize:
Topical treatments like Revolution Plus and similar products kill ticks AFTER they bite.
That means infection can still happen. 💔
🚨 If your cat shows ANY signs (don’t wait):
• Lethargy / hiding
• Loss of appetite
• Fever
• Pale gums
• Difficulty breathing
👉 GO TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY.
This is a medical emergency. Hours matter.
🐾 Why we’re sharing this:
Because we're seeing an extremely high number of cases.
Because we love these cats.
Because we’ve seen the heartbreak.
Because prevention is the ONLY real defense right now.
💬 If you have a cat—please don’t assume “it won’t happen to me.”
