Honouring the bond between people and their pets, Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital recognizes today's World Pet Memorial Day and the meaningful ways families choose to remember their furry companions.

Beyond traditional remembrance, some families find solace and purpose in considering pet body donation as a way to honour their beloved companions after they’ve passed.

Choosing to donate their pet’s body after passing can be a way to give back and support future veterinary care.

These donations are used by many veterinary colleges and Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) training programs across Canada to teach anatomy, surgical technique, and compassionate care to the next generation of veterinary professionals.

Each pet is treated with dignity and respect, and their contribution helps ensure other animals receive better, more informed treatment in the future.

ICYMI: June is National Pet Preparedness Month, and here's why that matters.

Canada has experienced its share of natural disasters, from wildfires in Alberta to floods in British Columbia. These events underscore the importance of including pets in emergency planning.

A 2021 ASPCA survey found that while 83% of pet owners live in areas affected by natural disasters, less than half have an emergency plan in place.

Moreover, nearly 20% had to evacuate without their pets, often leaving them behind for days or weeks.

These statistics highlight the necessity of proactive planning to ensure our pets' safety during emergencies.

This national award recognizes practices that uphold the highest standards of veterinary professionalism, patient and client care, team-based service, and community involvement.

Like humans, pets also need blood donors for emergency situations.

Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital has a blood bank and donation program right in our hospital to make it easy for your pet to donate and be a hero – and the initial donor screening/typing profile, examination and bloodwork are no charge to you!

If your pet is a good fit for our donation program, you and your pet will receive:

💕 A full physical exam
💕 Free blood typing
💕 Yearly routine blood work
💕 Urine and F***l tests
💕 A toy or treat for your pet after each donation
💕 Parasite preventative medications
💕 Knowing your pet has saved others’ lives!
