It's in puddles at the park. 🏞️
It's in soil after a rainstorm. 🌧️
And in a recent Boston study, nearly 1 in 5 rats carried it. 🐀

As of July 2024, AAHA’s Canine Vaccination Guidelines now list the leptospirosis vaccine as core for all dogs, everywhere.

With wildfire smoke creating poor air quality across parts of the Midwest, East Coast, and New England in recent days and expected in the days to come, the AVMA is reminding the public that wildfire smoke can pose serious health risks not only to people, but to pets and livestock as well.

Smoke from wildfires contains fine particles that can cause respiratory issues in animals, especially those with pre-existing heart or lung disease. Pet owners should keep a close eye on their animals during poor air quality events and contact their veterinarian if any of the following signs appear. Learn more: https://bit.ly/454IJ0w

🌞🔥 It’s HOT out there, Joplin! 🔥🌞

Please don’t leave your pets unattended outside in this extreme heat. Just like us, they can suffer from heatstroke, dehydration, organ failure, and even death—sometimes in just minutes.

🐾 If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them. 🐾

✅ Provide shade and fresh water
✅ Bring them indoors when possible
🚫 NEVER leave them tied up or in direct sunlight

Let’s be their voice. Let’s be responsible. Let’s save lives. 💛

Help From My Friends' Pet Crisis Center has been really fortunate to receive large donations of food from Antrim County Animal Control, Tractor Supply of Bellaire, Dollar General of Central Lake, Second Chance Mushers, and the public on multiple occasions in recent times. We are grateful and humbled by the support of others to ensure our food pantry stays stocked for people and pets in need.

However, we are putting food and supplies out regularly and cannot sustain a 24/7 pet pantry any longer. After putting our thinking cats on, we have decided to move our supplies inside and we will now require the public to seek assistance during our regular business hours (Thursday through Sunday 12pm-6pm). If you need assistance outside of these hours, please contact Antrim County Animal Control or Hoop's Pet Pantry of Traverse City.

Please understand that we do want to help as many pets as possible and much consideration went into this decision. We hope you will share this post to inform our beloved community of these adjustments.

Thank you for loving animals and supporting our mission and the people and pets of Antrim County! ❤️ 🐾
