Lily is nine years old, and we’ve reached the point where we’re truly begging, please, someone come take her home. She lost everything when her owner passed away and was passed along to a family member who couldn’t meet her needs. She came to us with a severe skin and yeast infection, but after months of care and medication, she looks like a completely different dog, healthier, brighter, and still full of hope.

Still, she’s always overlooked because of her age. Lily is housebroken, knows some commands, is incredibly food motivated, and adores sunbathing and simply being near people. She enjoys the company of some dogs, is good with kids, but would prefer a cat-free home.

She is on lifelong thyroid medication, but it’s manageable and affordable, and we’ll even help get you started by sending you with some. Lily is the perfect family dog, and yet she sits quietly in the back of the shelter, her sad eyes following every visitor who passes her by in search of a puppy. 😔 But Lily says she can be your new puppy, just with a little more wisdom and a lot more heart! Please, come meet her. She’s been waiting for her special someone!

Right now, we have 37 sweet kittens in foster care — plus three pregnant mama cats getting ready to welcome even more little ones! As these kittens begin weaning and transition to solid food, we could really use your help to keep our shelves stocked!

If you’re able, please consider donating wet kitten food — either by dropping some off or by visiting our Amazon and Chewy wish lists (linked in the comments) to send supplies straight to our door.

We also partner with some amazing local businesses, like The Animal House - Damariscotta, Louis Doe Pet Center, and Ames True Value Supply, who are always ready to help (and often donate themselves!).

As the weather warms up, the number of pregnant cats, newborns, and orphaned kittens in our care will skyrocket! When you're out shopping for your own pets, please keep our little ones in mind! Every can of food makes a big difference. ❤🐾

Medical emergencies can occur suddenly and without warning, so it's best to be prepared. A Pet First Aid Kit allows you to have important items available to care for your pet in one area. No one can be prepared for all emergencies, but it's still important to have the basics.

If the emergency is severe, get your pet to your local hospital as soon as possible.

Bloodwork is a crucial diagnostic tool that assists our doctors in identifying underlying health issues, detecting parasites, and determining the cause of illness in your pet, while also establishing a baseline for future reference. Although we recommend annual bloodwork starting at one year of age, it is essential to consider that your pet ages 6-8 years every 12 months.

Spring is here! And with that comes a warning about Leptospirosis, a disease caused by infection with Leptospira bacteria.

All dogs are at risk of leptospirosis, regardless of age, breed, lifestyle, geographic location, time of year, and other factors. The following situations can increase that risk:

➡Exposure to or drinking from slow-moving or stagnant water sources, like ponds, rivers, lakes, or streams
➡ Roaming on rural properties (because of exposure to potentially infected wildlife or farm animals or urine-contaminated water sources)
➡ Exposure to wild animals (especially rodents) or farm animals, even if in the backyard
➡ Contact with other dogs (such as in urban areas, dog parks, or boarding or training facilities)
