Kern County Animal Services is one of the largest organizations in the Central Valley that rescues, houses and cares for lost and abandoned animals annually, enforces animal-related laws and acts to prevent cruelty to animals. We provide field services to the unincorporated areas of Bakersfield and Kern County. Our field staff works to prevent the spread of Rabies through our Rabies Control Progra

m including enforcing the licensing of dogs, and rabies vaccinations for dogs. Field staff also responds to reports of animal bites and places animals under quarantine when necessary; responds to stray animal calls and attempts to reunite lost pets with their owners through identification to prevent pets from ever entering the shelter. Kern County Animal Services has one shelter located in Bakersfield. We also have a contracted sheltering facility in Lake Isabella. In addition to field and sheltering services, we have a variety of programs to assist the public in being a responsible pet owner and to help shelter pets including:

Low-cost vaccination, licensing and microchipping clinics
Foster Program
Volunteer Program
Spay/Neuter Voucher Program for low-income residents
TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) Program
Safety Net Pet Food Program
General Pet Information and Referral Information for Community Services

Rosamond! Our adoptable dogs are headed your way tomorrow!

Looking to meet your new best friend? Our pups are heading out for a weekend of offsite adoption events!

📍 TOMORROW: Grocery Outlet in Rosamond, 11am - 3pm

These special events give some of our most overlooked dogs a chance to shine outside the shelter. Many of them have been waiting patiently for their forever homes for no fault of their own! This is their moment to stand out!

Offsite events are a great way to connect in a more relaxed setting, where you can spend time getting to know a smaller group of carefully selected, highly adoptable dogs.

✨ Come meet them. Fall in love. Take home your new best friend!

Diesel
Male, 2 years, 48 pounds

He walks excellent on leash. He’s a happy fella who loves getting affection and attention. He even rolled on his back for tummy scratches.

This handsome fella needs an adopter, foster, or rescue ASAP. He was already short on time, and was given a little extra time, but he's still being ignored and overlooked.

Diesel was adopted from this very shelter as a puppy and recently arrived back as a stray. The shelter has made every effort to contact his owners but never responded.

Diesel was out of public view due to being sick, but he's back in the public adoption area and hoping to been noticed by that special someone.

Sargent Woofers A1244746
Male, 5 years,57 pounds

Sargent Woofers reporting for duty again! You’ve probably seen his other post before. He’s no stranger to the shelter.

A while ago, the shelter’s social media page made a post for him saying he was at risk for the final time. By the end of that day, he had a few interested people. He ended up going out on foster and spent some time out of the shelter. During that time, he had some adoption interest.

Sargent Woofers was recently returned to the shelter on 5/21 when his foster family went on vacation. Our dog foster team called all of the interested adopters to come meet him since he was still available. After all of those interests, he remains available.

Poor Sargent Woofers has already served his time at the shelter. He wants out. He wants to retire into a loving home. Although he did well in his foster home, when left outside for too long, he tends to scale the yard. He’s not meant to be an outside dog and will try to form a possible escape plan. He deserves to be inside where his people are.

He would probably need to be crated while you’re away for a few hours because he has separation anxiety.

Sargent Woofers is a really great boy. He’s friendly, mellow, dog friendly, and loving. He needs a family that will never give up on him. Can he join your family unit? He’s itching to transfer from shelter life to family life. Please visit the shelter and meet with Sargent Woofers!

tomorrow!

Streets Of Bakersfield is our "Doggy Day Out" program where the public can take shelter dogs on day outings. Your adventure can include a hike, a trip to the park, a coffee date or even hanging out at home. You can take a dog out for a few hours or even for the whole weekend!

Why We're Doing It:
These field trips help our shelter dogs manage kennel stress, burn off energy and get more exposure to potential adopters.

How It Works:
* Dogs are available for pick up from 10:00 AM to Noon
* "Streets Of Bakersfield" dogs need to be returned by 3:30 PM.
* "Sleepover dogs must be returned to the shelter the following Monday by 4pm
* You can pick a dog, or we can pick one for you!
* Must be 18 or older to take a dog out for the day.
* You will need to have a current foster application in the system, or you can fill one out when you get to the shelter.

We ask that you fill out our Streets of Bakersfield Report Card, which gives us important information and insight about your shelter dog. Report cards are scanned to their permanent record and hung on their kennels.

We also appreciate any photos and videos of your adventures and love to share them on social media.

Red, Shisui, Kenzy, Honey Bear Velma, Swiper, Pumpkin, Nala, and many more of our foster dogs can be found on Facebook at "Kern County Animal Services (KCAS) Dog Fosters"

Because they’ve lived in a home, foster families can share details about personality, routines, training, and how they do with kids, cats, or other dogs. Many foster dogs are already adjusting to home life, making the transition easier for adopters.

Check out these dogs and many more at https://direc.to/oK_G
