Gypsy is our with Studio 17 Live
She was brought in by animal control with several injuries including a deep laceration to her eye. Our medical team suspects that she had been hit by a car. She is available for adoption or rescue now that she is healed up.

She is blind in the injured eye but has full vision in her other eye. She is such a sweetheart that acts exactly like a puppy with no limitations. She does not understand the leash and doesn’t know any commands yet. Gypsy is only 4 months old and eager to learn and be loved. She enjoys affection and has a kennel mate that she gets along with.

We think she is a German Pinscher mix. She is tall and weighs 13 lbs. Her expected adult weight would be 30 to 45 lbs. We’re thankful she made it here safe and sound and now we want her to make it out safely into a forever home.

💥Now is the time💥FREE dog tags and FREE microchips all month long for Bakersfield City residents. You do not have to be adopting a dog, and your dog or dogs do not have to be previously adopted from this shelter.

Just come to the shelter during business hours to have your contact information and your dog’s name etched onto their very own dog tag at no charge. If your dog needs to be microchipped we will do that as well.

We are hoping to help for the upcoming holiday. The 5th of July is typically the highest day of intake for our City’s Animal Control/Shelter, along with the week and weekend of 4th of July.

Please make sure if your dog is already microchipped, that the chip is registered with your correct address and phone number.

OPEN TUESDAY-SATURDAY 10am to 4pm

UPDATE: ADOPTED 🙌🎉🎉🎉
‼️This is Aurora’s last call, this is her HAIL MARY 🙏🏻 She was first brought to the shelter late February‼️ She is a beautiful shepherd/husky mix, 1 year old and just over 45 pounds. She does get along with other dogs and has been fostered out for almost a month but had to be returned.

She is now at risk and this post MUST find her an adopter or rescue that can save her.

Aurora was recently at an adoption event and did so well, she was very engaging. She is crate trained and walks well on leash. She would be the best companion to an active family that can give her enrichment and guidance as she’s still learning.

Dog friendly, kid friendly
No cats, no birds
Aurora, A166903, spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped

He’s short, stocky and one sharp looking little man. Meet Dapper Dan. Don’t let his silver muzzle fool you this older dude has lots of life to live and is looking for his perfect forever and a family to love.

He’s past all the antics of youth and would be most content just hanging out and getting all the attention he’s never had. Like so many shelter dogs Dapper Dan was picked up as a stray. He’d likely spent his whole life living alone in a backyard forgotten and neglected. We’d like to see that change.

He deserves all the comforts of home that a family can provide and we’re determined to find that for him and give him a future outside these shelter walls. Love a handsome bulldog? Want to give an older guy his chance? Dapper Dan is waiting to make his exit and we promise he’ll do it in style!

UPDATE: ADOPTED 🎉 6/6/26
🐶 Kai is our 🐶 She is friendly with people as well as kids and is dog friendly too. She is a pocket pittie that rides well in the car and is excited on leash but is only 32 lbs so she’s easy to manage.

This girl could brighten anyone’s day and we’re hoping that you can brighten hers by springing her from the shelter.

Kai is already spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. Animal ID A168896

🍪Meet Cookie Monster, he may be big, but he’s the monster that’s opposite of bad and scary. He is the calm, distinguished gentleman you just might be looking for. His Labrador heritage shines through with his social nature and desire for human companionship.

That companionship is all he’s ever known. Cookie Monster has lived his whole life with an unhoused individual. Sadly when that individual could no longer care for him the shelter is where he ended up. And this isn’t his 1st time here. He’s been a repeat visitor and would really love to get out for good. Can you help us make that happen?

Cookie Monster has the chill affectionate personality so many adopters are looking for. He’s unbothered by most of life’s stressors and ready for a lap to lounge by (or maybe on 😂) and a home to call his own. We hope you can help us make that happen. So many deserving shelter dogs never get their chance and we try really hard to get them all seen. Your share may just find this sweet boy his family. That one click could absolutely change his life!

🍪Cookie Monster is already neutered, 1 yr old, 73 lbs. Animal ID A165027
