🦷 More Than Fresh Breath: Why Dental Health Matters for Your Pet 🐾 (and receive 10% off)
Did you know that dental disease is one of the most common health problems in dogs and cats? By age 3, most pets have some degree of periodontal disease—even if they’re still eating normally and acting happy.
A Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment (COHAT), often called a dental cleaning, is about much more than removing tartar. During a COHAT, your veterinarian evaluates your pet’s entire oral cavity, cleans above and below the gumline, and takes dental radiographs (X-rays) to identify problems that can’t be seen during a visual exam alone.
In fact, up to 60% of a tooth lies below the gumline, meaning painful conditions such as tooth root abscesses, bone loss, resorptive lesions, and fractured teeth can go undetected without dental radiographs.
Untreated dental disease doesn’t just affect the mouth—it can impact your pet’s overall health. Chronic inflammation and infection may contribute to heart, liver, and kidney disease, affecting organ function and potentially shortening your pet’s lifespan.
Your pet can’t tell you when their mouth hurts, but regular dental care can make a world of difference in how they feel every day.
