Last week we celebrated Veterinary Assistant and Technician Appreciation Week. In line with the occasion, we wanted to publicly acknowledge how wonderful these amazing people are and the invaluable contributions they make to our daily lives. Often unrecognized, these hardworking individuals play such a crucial role in the care of your pets. Our assistants are critical for making every day run smoothly and are often who enable us to fit so many patients into our busy schedules. Our assistants do it all from greeting you with a warm smile, providing comfort to your frightened pet, soothing them while they recover from surgeries, as well as offering treats to alleviate their anxieties. Assistant’s responsibilities commonly include drawing blood, placing catheters, and performing the tests that often allow us to be able to make a diagnosis for your pets. They take on every challenge we give them and rise to the occasion every time. Their hard work and dedication is unmatched. Our assistants often put their bodies in harm's way to protect us but it’s the emotional scars that must be acknowledged the most. They come in every day willing to risk their hearts by investing their love into our patients. They are constantly learning and improving their skill sets allowing us to give your loved ones the best care and increase the level of medicine we can provide them. They step up for us in more ways than you can imagine, commonly sacrificing weekends, evenings, and time at home with their families to ensure that the critical patients can be seen. Without their energy, laughter, dark humor, kindness, organization, time management, and random dance parties we would never make it through the day. Their job is hard and they do it with grace and dignity. We want them to know how much we appreciate the hard work and dedication that they put in every day. To say that we are incredibly proud of these human beings would be a gross understatement. We are so grateful that they chose to be part of our team and that we can continue to grow with them.
