RPR Senior Dogs and Friends Rescue is a No-Kill companion animal rescue dedicated to helping pets in need and helping end the suffering caused by humans through overbreeding, abandonment, and cruelty. Our goal is to save one animal at a time and give it the best care possible through proper vetting, spaying/neutering, proper feeding and nutrition, training, love, and compassion. Our volunteers and Fosters receive training in basic care, nutrition, training, and medical emergencies so they have the tools they need to help an animal become adoptable and eventually find its forever family. Our adopters also receive valuable information and support, so they know they can count on us when needed. I have seen the number of animals killed in U.S shelters drop over 44 years from 20 million adoptable pets per year to six million per year. Adopting a dog is a significant responsibility and commitment. We adopt seniors to Canadians. We have adopted the philosophy put forth by SHUG Rescue's founder that we, as a rescue, are seeking EMOTIONAL SUPPORT HUMANS for the dogs. OUR REQUIREMENTS FOR DOG ADOPTION:

1) These dogs are not livestock dogs. They must be family pets that are allowed inside the home. We prefer applicants with experience caring for small breeds and a willingness to feed breed-appropriate food.

3) Secure visible fencing is required. Applicants must have a clear plan for dog socialization. Do not ask if a dog is available; if posted, it is. However, earlier applications may be in process, and the dog may become unavailable. The quickest way to be considered is to complete the application. Sending an inquiry instead will delay processing. Volunteers manage applications alongside personal commitments. We process as quickly as possible. Health: All dogs have been spayed/neutered unless they are too young. They are microchipped, current on DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies. All dogs are wormed and flea-treated, tested negative for heartworm and Parvo, and fed a species-appropriate, human-grade dog diet. Adoption Fees

The senior adoption fee is $395. The fee helps cover transport from shelters, vaccines, worming, parasite and flea treatments, wellness exams, special and dental care, and care for sick or injured dogs. Younger animals range from $495.00 to $595.00 and help cover the costs of running a rescue and saving lives. SDR rescues seniors from local and state shelters, accepts relinquished older pets, and brings in dogs from California and Mexico. Dogs receive veterinary care, including dental attention, before adoption. We rely exclusively on adoption fees and donations, as we receive no grants. We also take in special-needs dogs, using surplus funds from adoptions of healthier dogs to cover high veterinary costs. About Senior Dogs and Friends Rescue
Senior Dogs and Friends Rescue is a licensed nonprofit specializing in rescuing senior and small-breed adult dogs that have been abandoned or surrendered. We serve Western Washington State, one hour north of Seattle. Our passion is to bring people and pets together. Countless dogs are without homes and in need of assistance. These are dogs who would make wonderful and faithful companions if only they could connect with the right person or family. We have made it our mission to help them do this. We have a home-based operation on Acreage, in Arlington, and our dogs are placed in foster homes around the greater Seattle/I-5 Corridor, North to the Bellingham area, where they receive socialization and training while they await adoption. Our Adoption Process...
Because we operate from a small, gated facility and are staffed entirely by volunteers, we are not able to accommodate visitors at this time. To adopt one of our dogs, please follow these steps: (1) Complete an application for the dog or dogs you are considering. (2) We will review applications and contact you by phone to discuss further. (3) If it appears to be a good match, you will be pre-approved. (4) We will then schedule a meet-and-greet with the dog at our facility or with its foster family. Please note: We are also adopting senior dogs to Canadians.

Lily is a 1-year-old, small mixed-breed, cuddly and playful pup who was dumped with her mom in a field and left to fend for themselves until Animal Control picked them up, and then they were in danger of being euthanized.

"Tell me about Lily"
So happy you asked!

Lily has been understandably cautious when she first meets someone new. Visitors can sit with her and her mum, Hazel, until the girls are comfortable enough to interact. Once Lily becomes familiar with a person, she will start working her way into their lap and eventually want to be picked up and held close.
At night, she prefers to crawl under the covers and stay warm against your body.

Lily is still young, and this is a great time to get her acquainted with her new people, eventually with friends and other family members, train her to use a harness and lead, and begin having adventures (once she is settled and acclimated to her home and family first).

Lily loves her mom, and while we would prefer to have them adopted together, we also don't want to miss an opportunity for Lily to have a family of her own. She may do fine as an only dog, but she loves to play and interact with her mom, so another dog in the home who is dog-friendly and playful would be wonderful.

Lily loves food and is highly food-motivated. Lily loves fresh vegetables from the garden, watermelon, soft- and hard-boiled eggs, apples, and fresh ground peanut butter, and is trying new foods with her foster. Navi, her foster, admires Lily's intelligence and how easily she trains. Apply to adopt or share this with everyone who loves dogs.

**August Dog Food Drive for Senior Dog Rescue**

Senior Dogs and Friends is Posting our August Dog Food Drive.

We are posting our Monthly Dog Food and Supply Drive to help us through August with donations of dog food and supplies, so we have plenty on hand to feed these gorgeous pups while they wait for their forever people to adopt them. By Wednesday morning, we will be out!
Summer is scoot'n along, and it's gorgeous at the rescue.
The rescue has 17 dogs at the Rescue Ranch in Arlington and two in foster care. 14 are available for adoption, and 5 are sanctuary seniors. Nala, a chocolate Lab mix, is our oldest at 15.5 years old.
Any donation of dog food or supplies will help us immensely, and as always, we thank you for supporting a rescue dog.

**Cody, a male Dachshund-Corgi mix.

Charlie and Cody are gentle, reserved brothers, about 18 months old, and both have been neutered. They arrived at the shelter with their two sisters and their mother. After being separated from the females, the brothers became very close. Now, they are showing more affection and are starting to enjoy life in the Pacific Northwest.
Cody is a little more shy than Charlie and is slowly learning to trust people. We can now gently stroke his face, but he is still getting used to being touched. Cody's daily routine includes regular feeding times, rest periods, and gentle playtime with his brother and other dogs at the rescue center. He spends much of his day relaxing in a comfortable spot, then goes outside to the fenced yard with the other dogs to explore, sniff, run, play,, and receive quiet socialization from the staff and volunteers. Cody is safe, well-fed, comfortable, up to date on his vaccinations, and has no known health problems. All five dogs from this family are ready to find new homes.

Cody is cautious but also curious. He loves having another dog as a friend and will follow that dog everywhere. Cody has always lived with other dogs, first with his mom and siblings, and now with other rescue dogs. While he is shy at first, we believe he will become more confident with one-on-one time with patient people who want to help him build trust. It helps if you have experience with shy rescue dogs and are willing to let him grow at his own pace. For adopters, we recommend establishing a consistent routine so he feels secure, providing a quiet place where he can relax, and gently introducing him to new people and experiences. Allowing Cody to approach you at his own pace and rewarding him for trying new things, such as taking treats or exploring new areas, will help him gain confidence over time.

Cody has settled in at the rescue center. Since there are many wild animals nearby, we have not been able to train Cody to use a harness or go for walks on a leash yet. Once in a new home, Cody will need a gentle introduction to a harness and leash, starting indoors or in a secure yard to help him feel comfortable. Adopters should be prepared to take leash training slowly and use positive reinforcement. Many shy dogs need several weeks to adjust to wearing a harness and walking on a leash, so it is important to go at Cody's pace and celebrate small steps. We will provide guidance, tips, and resources to help with Cody's leash and harness training, and our team is available to answer questions during the transition.
We would love it if the brothers could be adopted together into a home with a fenced yard, so they have a safe place to go outside and can learn to walk on a harness and leash. A securely fenced yard is required for Cody's adoption, as it helps ensure his safety while he builds confidence and explores.
If you already have a friendly dog who can mentor Cody, he will do fine without Charlie. Cody really needs another dog for friendship and mentoring. In their foster home was a larger, very gentle dog whom the boys befriended and followed everywhere.

Cody may be shy at first, but he is curious and wants to connect with people. Cody loves treats and will take them from your hand. Cody also enjoys being spoken to and responds well to a gentle voice. With time, patience, and love, Cody will become a loyal companion. We prefer adopters who have experience with shy or untrained dogs or who are open to guidance to help the Cody adjust to his new home. Our rescue offers a range of support and resources to help adopters through the transition, including advice by phone or email, check-in calls after adoption, printed and digital training guides, and ongoing guidance from our experienced staff. We are here to answer any questions and offer help as you get to know Cody, so you can feel confident as he settles in.

We are not sure if Cody has been around children, so we suggest a home without kids. The Corgi-Dachshund mix, also known as a “Dorgi,” was first bred by Queen Elizabeth of the UK. Because they have a prey drive, they should not live with small animals or cats.

**Meet Luna the Adorable Dachshund-Terrier**

Luna is a sweet and loving Terrier mix who came to Rompin Paws Rescue with her two sisters. She is looking for her forever home. At first, Luna can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once she feels safe and cared for, she becomes a wonderful cuddle buddy who loves affection and curling up on your lap. Luna is nervous around children and would do best in an adults-only home. She has not been tested with cats. Because she is part Jack Russell, we do not recommend a home with cats or other small animals. However, she enjoys the company of small, friendly dogs and could be adopted with her friend Nyssa.

Luna is 2.5 years old and truly beautiful. She has a shiny, slightly wavy black coat with silver streaks and a white chest that makes her stand out. Luna enjoys being groomed, held, loved, and playing with other dogs in the yard.

Luna does best when she has other dogs around, so she would be happiest in a home with at least one friendly dog to play with. Watching her grow and become more confident in a caring home, especially with another dog to guide her, is very rewarding. Your support in building these bonds will help Luna gain confidence and happiness. Because she is active, Luna needs a fenced yard where she can run and play safely.

Luna’s day usually starts with breakfast, then some energetic playtime in the yard, especially if she has another dog to play with. She likes going for walks or exploring outside, and then enjoys a cozy nap, either near her person or snuggled with another dog. Throughout the day, Luna switches between playing—chasing toys, playing with friends, or learning new tricks—and resting. She does best with positive attention, gentle affection, and a routine that includes play, training, meals, and quiet time. In the evening, Luna enjoys cuddling before bedtime, feeling safe and comfortable in her favorite spot.

Luna is full of energy and always ready to play with her dog friends in the rescue’s big yard. She loves attention from everyone she meets, and her love for running makes her a great walking companion.

Luna could do very well in agility training and other fun activities. Bringing her home means adding a playful, sweet, and affectionate dog to your family. With regular training, she will likely learn new skills quickly. She is still getting used to the harness and leash, but she is eager to learn, just like her sisters. Luna is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, and ready to meet her new family. She is healthy and has no ongoing medical needs. Your care will help her stay happy and healthy as she settles in.

Spotlight on Mia

Mia was rescued in California after she and her sister were left behind at a groomer. She’s a 5-year-old female Dorgi-a Corgi-Dachshund mix. Mia is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, and in good health. She is smart, protective, loving, and independent. She may take a few days to warm up to new people, but treats help her feel more comfortable. Once she trusts you, Mia enjoys belly rubs, playing with her toys, chewing on her split elk antler, and running around the yard. She has a wonderful personality and is very loyal to her favorite person.

Mia is content to relax and chew on her antler while you work, so she doesn’t need constant attention. When she’s ready for affection, she’ll happily put her antler aside to spend time with you.

What Mia Needs:
Mia is looking for a home where she can be the only pet, without children or small animals. She loves attention and needs someone who can give her lots of love and care. A fenced yard is important for her potty breaks and walks. It’s also important to keep her on a healthy diet to help her stay well. We’ll provide you with all the guidance you need to care for her.

The ideal adopter for Mia is someone experienced with protective or independent dogs, or someone willing to learn and follow guidance. Patience is important, as Mia may take time to adjust. A calm, adult-only home is best, and someone home regularly to keep her company would be a great fit. Most of all, Mia needs someone who will love her forever and never leave her behind again.

Mia is very protective and needs to be introduced to new people in the right way, since she wants to keep her person and her home safe. This is common for Corgi-Dachshund mixes if they aren’t well socialized. Once she gets to know someone and sees them regularly, she becomes their friend. To support you through these introductions, I will provide a step-by-step guide and be available to answer any questions. For example, when Mia meets someone new, we recommend starting with short, calm visits while Mia remains in a pen within sight of the new person, allowing her to observe you interacting positively with them. Treats and praise help Mia feel secure. I’ll provide detailed instructions for each step and check in after your first introductions to offer advice. Mia tends to prefer women and would make a wonderful companion for a single woman seeking a loyal, protective friend. Mia is a good watchdog and will do her best to protect you and your home if a stranger comes to the door.

Libby is a sweet and loving 13-pound, 3-year-old female Dachshund-Corgi mix. She was found in Fresno, California, running with her daughter and two sons, along with other abandoned stray dogs.

Libby would be a great companion for a retired woman. She feels most comfortable with women and is a bit shy around men, but can warm up to dog-friendly men over time. Her ideal adopter is a woman or someone experienced with cautious rescue dogs. Libby prefers homes without children and does best in a calm, adult-only environment. At first, she may be cautious and not want to be picked up. As she learns to trust, she will come closer, give gentle kisses, and want to be near you, even joining you on the couch. Once she fully trusts you, she will let you pick her up. Once Libby bonds, she bonds deeply and will be your forever dog. I adore Libby, she is an awesome dog, and I can't wait for her to find her special human who will love her the way she deserves.

Libby enjoys relaxing at home, but with a little encouragement, she will happily go for walks on a harness and explore with you. She loves to cuddle and is very affectionate. Once she bonds with you, she will be a loyal companion. Libby can be an only dog as long as she has her person nearby and is not left alone for long periods. She gets along well with other friendly, small-breed dogs. Libby is usually cautious around bigger dogs and may feel nervous if they are too playful or energetic, so she would do best in a home without large dogs or with calm, gentle ones.

** Spotlight on: Lexxi, a Dachshund-Corgi Mix female**

Lexxi is a beautiful 15-pound, 1.5-year-old Dachshund-Corgi mix. She was found with her mom and brothers after being abandoned and running with other stray dogs in Fresno, California. The dogs were rounded up by Animal Control and sent to the Fresno shelter. Sadly, due to overcrowding, Lexxi and her family were going to be euthanized. SDAF pulled them from the shelter so they could find a forever family.

Lexxi is very close to her mom, Libby. We hope they can be adopted together, but Lexxi can also bond with another friendly dog in the home. Adopters should have experience with dogs and rescues, as both Lexxi and Libby are somewhat afraid of men. If there is a man in the home, he will need to help with feeding and care to build their trust, since they usually trust women first. Some ways men can help build trust include offering treats by hand, participating in regular feeding routines, spending quiet time nearby, and engaging in gentle play sessions to encourage positive interactions. Being patient and using a calm, gentle voice will help Lexxi and Libby feel more comfortable and secure.

According to their foster: Lexxi (the black-and-tricolor one) is the quieter of the two and loves relaxing on the couch. Now that she is out of the noisy shelter, she is starting to come out of her shell. With a gentle, steady home, she will continue to gain confidence. Lexxi and Libby are very close, easygoing, and impressively quiet. They would not make good guard dogs, but they are wonderful companions.

Lexxi is spayed and up to date on her vaccines. She has learned to walk on a leash, but because there are large predators like bears and cougars at the rescue, we do not walk the dogs here. As a result, adopters should expect Lexxi to need extra patience and positive reinforcement as she gets used to regular walks and to wearing a harness again. It is normal for her to be hesitant at first. Starting with short indoor sessions or in a secure, quiet area, using treats and gentle encouragement, will help her regain confidence on leash. With understanding and a gradual approach, she can become comfortable and enjoy walks with her new family.

Lexxi is still young and can become a wonderful family member with some patience and training. Their foster had started harness and leash training, but they will need more practice. Because of their anxiety and past trauma, we recommend a home without children. They need a calm, adult household. If you have the time, love, and experience to help Lexxi or both of these two sweet girls heal and become part of your family, we would love to talk with you.

We also offer a foster-to-adopt period, so you will have plenty of time to get to know Lexxi and help her adjust. During this time, our team will provide ongoing support and guidance as you welcome Lexxi into your home. We are available to answer questions, offer training tips, and help troubleshoot any challenges she may face during her transition. Our goal is to make sure you and Lexxi both feel supported as you get to know each other.
