🌡️🐾 Heat Stroke Can Happen Fast — Know the Signs
As temperatures rise, our pets are at risk for heat-related illness. Dogs cool themselves mainly by panting, while cats often hide signs of illness, making heat stroke especially dangerous because symptoms may not be obvious until it’s severe.
Watch for these warning signs:
🐶 Excessive panting or heavy breathing
💧 Excessive drooling
🩸 Bright red or very pale gums
😴 Weakness or unusual tiredness
🤢 Vomiting or diarrhea
🌀 Confusion, stumbling, or disorientation
⚠️ Collapse or inability to stand
🚨 If your pet shows any of these signs, move them to a cool, shaded area and contact your veterinarian immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency and can become life-threatening within minutes.
☀️ Help prevent heat stroke by:
• Walking dogs during the cooler morning or evening hours
• Providing plenty of fresh water and shade at all times
• Limiting strenuous exercise on hot days
• Never leaving pets unattended in a parked vehicle—even for a moment
• Placing water stations outside for community cats when possible
❤️ If you see a stray or community cat that appears unresponsive, is showing signs of heat stroke, or is in obvious distress, please contact your local Animal Control agency right away so they can receive the help they need.
