We are all here because we share an intense love and respect for all animals, large and small. Our veterinary director, Timothy Cavanagh, DVM, ABVP, has devoted over 30 years of his life to helping animals with health problems – and helping them and their human companions avoid health problems. Dr. Cavanagh is a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. He focuses a good deal of

his care on bone, joint and muscle problems, soft-tissue injuries and internal medicine. He also provides acupuncture, ultrasound, dental, eye care and spay/neuter services to meet your needs. Most importantly, he gives you the peace of mind of knowing that he cares as much about your animal companion as you do.

It’s that time of the year to be aware of potential salmon poisoning in your dogs! 🐟🎣

Salmon poisoning sounds like it is caused by a toxin, but it involves a bacterial infection in dogs. This infection can occur when dogs eat raw or undercooked salmon, trout, steelhead, or Pacific giant salamanders infected with a fluke (parasitic flatworm) called Nanophyetus salmincola.

Symptoms to watch for:
If not treated, salmon poisoning disease is usually fatal within 2 weeks after exposure. The symptoms of salmon poisoning disease are similar to other gastrointestinal diseases such as canine parvovirus. If infected, your dog would likely show some or all of the following symptoms about 6 to 10 days after ingesting fish which were carrying the bacteria. Symptoms may be of variable severity but generally consist of:

•Fever, often greater than 104 F
•Depression
•Anorexia
•Vomiting
•Diarrhea
•Nasal or eye discharge
•Weight loss

Please do not hesitate to call us with any questions or concerns 💛

💙Adding a new pet to the family? Ask us about our puppy program that we offer at the clinic! 💙

At their very 1st visit our doctors will start with a physical and wellness exam: Weigh the puppy, check their temperature, listen to their heart and lungs, and examine their eyes, ears, nose, teeth, gums, skin, coat, and joints.

Discuss testing: If you are able to collect a stool sample please bring it with you to your appointment to
check for intestinal parasites, we will also deworm them at this time.

Vaccinations: Administer necessary vaccines and discuss the schedule for future shots. Typically vaccinations start at 8 weeks of age and are boostered every 4 weeks until they are 16 weeks old ☺️

Preventative care: Discuss and provide treatments for fleas, ticks, and heartworms such as Simparica Trio!!

Please call the clinic with any questions or concerns! 📞: 360-435-8929

🖤🐾Pets can’t say how they feel - it’s usually how they look or act that tells you something is wrong.
You play a key role in helping your pet combat illness and stay as healthy as possible.

🐾Why Regular Blood Work Matters for Pets
Monitors organ function: Some medications can affect the liver, kidneys, or other organs over time.

•Routine blood work helps us spot any changes early.
Ensures correct dosage: Pets process medications differently - regular testing helps confirm their dose is safe and effective.

•Tracks overall health: Blood tests give us valuable insight into your pet’s immune system, hydration, and more.

•Prevents complications: Early detection means we
can adjust medications or treatment plans before serious side effects occur.

•Bottom line: Regular blood work helps your pet
live a longer, healthier, and happier life. 🐾🖤

If you have any questions of concerns please do not hesitate to contact the clinic ☺️

Dr. Jackie’s gallant “horse” Sweeney wants to remind everyone to stay safe this Halloween 🎃👻

🖤🧡Top 5 Halloween Pet
Safety Tips:

1. Keep CANDY • Out of Reach - Pets have
a keen sense of smell and can sniff out any candy stash. Some treats can be toxic for them, especially chocolate and sugar-free candy containing xylitol.

2. Keep Pets Indoors & Away from the Door - Avoid potential escapes by keeping your pet in a familiar room with their favorite toys, treats, and some calming music.

3. Identification is Key - In case your pet gets out, ensure they have proper ID, like a collar with a tag or, even better, a microchip.

4. Be Cautious with Costumes - If your pet is in costume, never leave them unattended. Make sure the costume is comfortable, free from dangling pieces, and doesn’t restrict their movement, breathing, or ability to bark/meow.

5. Ditch the Doorbell - Repeated knocks or doorbell rings can cause stress. Consider setting up a candy station in your car trunk or handing out treats on your porch.

If you suspect your pet has ingested a toxic substance please call us at 360-435-8929
OR
Call 888-426-4435 the ASPCA Animal Poison
Control Center they are open 24 hours - 365 days of the year.🧡🖤

Have a SAFE, not scary Halloween night! 🧛‍♂️
