💙 Meet the Team: Doreen Coates 💙
Treasurer and Clinic Volunteer

We’re excited to introduce Doreen Coates, one of the incredible people who helps keep H.E.A.R.T., Inc. moving forward.

Doreen was a principal with Accounting with Debits and Credits / Coates & Hutchinson, PC for 36 years, managing day‑to‑day operations and supporting clients with their tax and accounting needs. In her retirement she spends a great amount of time as part of H.E.A.R.T., Inc team. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business from the University of Maryland in 1989 and became a CPA in 1991.

She’s also been deeply involved in her community, serving in multiple roles within the West Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce.

When she’s not working, Doreen loves spending time with her husband, kids, and grandkids — and she never turns down a chance to travel. ✈️💛

Her other great passion????
Volunteering to help make the lives of Maryland's animals better. She has volunteered at her local shelter and spends a great amount of time keeping our finances in order, as well as volunteering with the day-to-day task at the clinic. Her heart for animals and her dedication to service shine through in everything she does.

💙🐾 Emergency After‑Hours Surgeries at H.E.A.R.T., Inc. 🐾💙

What started as a normal day around 9am turned into a full‑scale emergency marathon for our team.
By the end of the night — close to midnight — our volunteers and staff had handled two pyometras and a foreign body surgery, all urgent cases that couldn’t wait.

People came in early, some left and came back, and new volunteers showed up as the night went on.
No hesitation. No complaints. Just heart, skill, and a shared commitment to saving lives.

Because of this team, three animals got the care they needed in time.
Because of this team, three families didn’t have to face the unthinkable.

To every person who stepped in — whether for an hour or the whole 15 — thank you.
This is what community looks like.
This is H.E.A.R.T., Inc.

Sometimes we forget that we aren’t a 24/7 emergency clinic, especially on long days like this one. Everytime we put the phone down, it seemed to ring with another emergency call. We absolutely could not do this without the support of our amazing volunteers, our community, and our staff.

Days like this are never the plan, but we do it because we care about the pets and the families of Maryland. Your patience and kindness mean everything as we work to help as many animals as we can with the resources we have. ❤️🐾

We want to say a huge thank you to our families who are supporting us, and picking up all of the pieces at home while we are working late on these emergencies!!!!

A massive shoutout to the amazing volunteer, Lynn who dropped snacks off on a long clinic day. Lynn always has our backs and definitely has saved the day on so many occasions.
Because nothing says “we believe in you” like surprise snacks.🍪🐾

Our team went from “running on fumes” to “fully powered clinic snack gremlins” in under 30 seconds
Snacks really are the universal love language 😆💗
