🎓🐾 Finley Graduated!

Help us celebrate Finley, a sweet 4-year-old Golden Retriever, who recently completed her chemotherapy treatment for a Mast Cell Tumor at our Annapolis location under the care of Dr. Chadsey!

Finley stole everyone’s heart with her gentle spirit and loved nothing more than snuggling with her favorite technicians during each visit. We’re so proud of this brave girl and honored to have been part of her journey.

🎉 Big News! 🎉

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Caro Solomon (they/them) as our third Internal Medicine Resident at AVIM&O, and the first to join our Annapolis location, starting in August!

Dr. Solomon earned their VMD from the University of Pennsylvania and completed an emergency internship at AAVEC in 2021. Since then, they’ve been a key part of the emergency team, caring for some of our most critical patients. Their passion for Internal Medicine and experience with complex cases make this residency a natural next step.

We’re proud and excited to support their continued development through our new residency program. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Solomon to AVIM&O! 👏

Boomer’s Comeback Story 🐾 💪

Last year, Boomer was in critical condition after developing IMPA, likely caused by Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. His family feared the worst, but Boomer pulled through thanks to Dr. Zacuto and the Internal Medicine team in Annapolis.

We recently received a heartwarming update from Boomer’s mom:
Today, he’s back to his happy, active self, spending his days playing catch, swimming, and exploring with his new brother. His family still reflects weekly on how grateful they are for every extra day they have with him.

Boomer, your resilience is truly inspiring. We’re honored to have been part of your journey. 💙

🐾 Patient Spotlight: Prince the Warrior! 🐾💪

Meet Prince, a brave 8-year-old Canaan Dog who first came to us in 2022 with severely elevated liver values. After a thorough workup, Prince was hospitalized with our team at AVIM for 6 days, underwent an abdominal surgery for liver biopsies and placement of a gastrostomy tube to provide support during his recovery.

Liver biopsies revealed that Prince had severe Chronic Active Hepatitis and Copper Storage Disease, a serious condition that required intensive treatment. For 3 months, Prince powered through a demanding regimen of multiple medications a day, and he did it like a champ!

Thanks to his dedicated family, our Internal Medicine team, and Prince's resilience, we’re thrilled to share that he has made a full recovery! 🎉

Today, Prince is healthy, happy, and living his best life, soaking up the sun in beautiful San Diego. ☀️🐶

We’re so proud of this sweet boy and honored to have been part of his journey. Go, Prince! 👑💚

🐾 Patient Spotlight: Newt 🐾

Newt was referred to AVIM&O’s Internal Medicine after coming down with a fever, abnormal bloodwork, and unusual symptoms. Her low white blood cells and platelets raised big concerns, and our team worked to rule out infections, autoimmune disease, or cancer.

We performed lab tests, ultrasounds, X-rays, and considered bone marrow testing. While her platelet count remained low, we were grateful to rule out cancer and serious infections.

With antibiotics, steroids, and plenty of TLC, Newt gradually began to improve. Her lab results started looking better, and she was feeling well enough to head home and continue healing with her loving family.

While her condition is still a bit of a mystery, Newt is stable and doing great at home. She’s back to her usual self and happily taking her meds hidden in donuts and marshmallows! 🍩💊 (Don’t tell her we told you!)

We’re so proud of Newt and grateful to her family for trusting us with her care. 💙
