🐾 Meet Hershey! 🐾

Hershey is a sweet 7-year-old Labrador currently waiting for her forever family at the Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland. At 7, she still has plenty of love, companionship and happy adventures ahead of her—without all the chaos of the puppy stage!

Adopting an older pet comes with so many benefits. Their personalities are already developed, many are house-trained and they are often calmer and more comfortable settling into a routine. Senior pets still enjoy walks, playtime and outings, but they also appreciate quiet evenings curled up beside their favorite person.

Most importantly, adopting an older dog gives a deserving pet a second chance at a loving home.

Hershey is a seven-year-old Lab we recently rescued from an overcrowded shelter. Unfortunately, this sweet girl is depressed and not eating. We know that she would improve tremendously if we could find a foster or adopter for this sweet pup. She has been through a lot, but remains so incredibly sweet. The volunteers love her, and the dogs do, too. She is great with kids, but cannot be in a house with cats.

Please plan ahead for any appointments, prescription refills, food purchases, or other veterinary needs before the holiday weekend.

🐾 Many pets find fireworks and holiday festivities stressful. If your pet is sensitive to loud noises or experiences anxiety during celebrations, we encourage you to contact us prior to the holiday weekend to allow ample time to plan accordingly and help keep them safe and comfortable.

Due to the ongoing power outage and unsafe conditions on Generals Hwy, Epping Forest Rd and our parking lot caused by multiple downed trees, we will remain closed today. The safety of our team members, clients, and patients is our top priority.

We will be contacting all clients who had appointments scheduled today, as well as the owners of pets currently boarding with us who were being discharged and admitted today, to provide updates and discuss next steps.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we navigate this situation. We will continue to monitor conditions and communicate any additional updates as they become available.

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Bonita 🌟

We're shining the spotlight on Bonita who has been a valued part of the GAVH family for an incredible 9 years!

When asked what she loves most about working here, Bonita shared that it's the family-and-friends atmosphere, along with getting to care for all of the wonderful animals we see every day.

At home Bonita has quite the furry family of her own, including her soul pup, Chico, and two cats, Olive and Kodak, a playful 10-week-old kitten.

When she's not at the hospital Bonita stays busy running a food truck with her daughter! And on her days off you'll often find her spending time with Chico at the park, relaxing in the backyard or working in her garden.

Thank you, Bonita, for your dedication, compassion and the positive energy you bring to our team every day. We're lucky to have you!
