🐊🦝🐢 Zookeeper Camp – Day 1! 🐢🦝🐊

We had a fantastic first day of camp at Crocodile Encounter!

Today, our campers explored the facility, fed giant tortoises, observed crocodiles and other wildlife, met one of our raccoons up close, fed waterfowl and antelope, and started their nature journals. Despite a few mosquitoes and some muddy conditions from the recent rain, everyone had a great attitude and jumped right into the adventure.

One of my favorite parts of the day was watching campers slow down, observe, ask questions, and connect with animals they may have never encountered before. These hands-on experiences are what make camp so special.

Tomorrow, campers will have the opportunity to help feed some of our snakes and lizards and continue learning what it takes to care for a wide variety of animals.

Thank you to all of our camp families for trusting us with your children. We are looking forward to another great day of learning, exploration, and fun!

If your kid loves animals, they’re going to have a blast at this camp.

They won’t just be learning about animals, they’ll actually get hands-on and do things like real zookeepers. It’s a really cool experience and something different from the usual summer stuff.

Zookeeper Camp exists for one reason: education through experience—no matter the season.
Whether it’s winter or summer, this camp is designed to spark curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and give young learners the opportunity to engage directly with wildlife in meaningful, hands-on ways.

Through animal care, conservation discussions, and immersive experiences, campers learn why animals matter, how they are cared for, and what their role is in protecting the natural world. Watching them confidently teach their families during our final tour is always the clearest reminder of the purpose behind Zookeeper Camp.

Today marked the final day of Winter Zookeeper Camp, and it was nothing short of amazing.

We wrapped up the week with an unforgettable ride through the park in the facility’s 4×4, cruising through the antelope and deer pasture—truly felt like something straight out of Jurassic Park. Once parents and families arrived, our campers led a final guided tour of the zoo, proudly explaining everything they had learned throughout the week.

From meeting Rosie the raccoon, learning about our Mexican eagle, caring for African spurred tortoises, and observing our Nile crocodiles and American alligators, our little zookeepers showed just how much knowledge and confidence they gained. Families even had the chance to help feed some of our larger animals and get up close, before finishing the day hanging out with the snakes.

This camp was an absolute blast, and I cannot thank everyone enough for choosing to ring in the New Year with me at Crocodile Encounter. Watching these kids grow, learn, and share their passion for wildlife made this week truly special.
