Turns out, staring at your reef tank might actually be good for you.
We all joke that reefing is our therapy⦠but there may actually be a little science behind it.
Research highlighted in a recent article from The Underwater Gardener found that simply watching an aquarium has been associated with:
š§ Improved mood
ā¤ļø Lower blood pressure
š Reduced heart rate
š Less anxiety and stress
š Calm, focused attention
And honestly, it makes sense. Thereās something about watching fish move through the water, corals gently swaying in the flow, discovering tiny new creatures in the rockwork, and seeing an entire ecosystem grow and change right in front of you.
For me personally, this hobby has become so much more than keeping fish and corals. It has given me something peaceful to focus on and a place to slow down when dealing with anxiety and the everyday stresses of life. If you ever want to know more about my own experience with that, please feel free to ask. Iām always happy to share.
And if youāve ever thought about bringing your own little piece of the ocean into your home, we would love to help you make it happen.
