Sharing this as a friendly reminder that while fleas and ticks are uncommon in Alaska, they absolutely can still happen. A local veterinary office recently found a live tick on a pet, so it is always important to stay mindful and keep up with prevention year round. 🐾
Thankfully all of our current clients are protected and up to date on prevention, but we wanted to help spread awareness since many people believe we do not have fleas or ticks here at all.
Travel, warmer weather, wildlife exposure, and visiting pets can all increase the risk. Prevention is one of the easiest ways to help keep your pets safe and healthy. 💛

Found on a local anchorage pet just 1 day ago. Yup, it's a tick. It will be sent to the state vet office for identification and possible infectious disease testing. The family was hiking near flattop in Anchorage and this little gem was found hours later. The pet has NOT been outside of Anchorage. I'm sorry to tell you that ticks ARE in Alaska. Please consider talking to your vet about whether flea/tick prevention is right for your pet.

UPDATE: Foster found!
Thank you to everyone that really boosted this post helping us find a foster

🚨 Immediate Foster Needed 🚨

This sweet boy is urgently looking for a foster home. He is as sweet as they come and has done nothing wrong. Unfortunately, the other male dogs in his current home have begun bullying him, and the situation has become unsafe for him to remain there. He is not neutered but we plan on getting that done ASAP

He is:
• Fully crate trained
• House broken
• Dog friendly
• Very sweet and well mannered

He gets along great with other dogs and has shown no issues on his part. He simply deserves a safe environment where he can relax and feel comfortable again.

Beans is still looking for his forever home and we truly cannot understand how 💛

This sweet boy is full of love, personality, and the biggest heart. Beans bonds deeply with his people and just wants to be close to the humans he loves. He’s goofy, affectionate, loyal, and always ready to soak up attention and cuddles.

Beans deserves a home that will continue helping him thrive and feel secure. He has so much love to give and will make an incredible companion for the right person.

One of our very own Howling Peaks daycare pups is still looking for his perfect home 💛

Marzipan has become such a loved part of our crew and everyone who meets him falls for his goofy personality, sweet nature, and huge heart. He thrives with people he trusts, loves being part of the fun, and truly just wants connection and love.

Like many dogs, Marzipan has things he’s still working through. He can be leash reactive and needs someone willing to continue helping him build confidence and succeed, but he has already made so much progress and continues to show us how amazing he really is. He does well with dogs he knows, enjoys daycare, and has become such a special part of our days here.
