Small group training today Down town !
This was a good day to be training down town. Very eventful with people growling, stomping testing the dogs and chanting to the dogs lol and the environment aka a bear statue! set some of the dogs off.
We trained through it, Letting the dogs build confidence with the environment.
🐾
For instance, dog shys away and growls from the bear > now you have to walk towards the statue bear and working around it. Not Training as LOOK AT ME! More of here it is let’s check it out! Walk around it on a loose leash. Not in obedience, just at the end of the leash letting the dog check it out but not letting the dog run away.
🐾
Once calm then you can take them away from the stressful situation.
🐾
(The main thing is letting the dog know they can go away, but go away in the right Emotions)
This is what builds confidence, also the reaction time from when the stress starts to easier recovery time. Starts to get less and less. This is Building the dog.
🐾
If you’re always letting the dog (Back away in the wrong emotion) from something that stressed/spooked them. They will go through life always fearing from that stress response was from the first time they won by going away in the wrong emotion (Ex: barking and woooing, pulling away from the handler fighting the leash to get away) this is destroying the dogs confidence. Recovery time will take a long time if able to even recover.
🐾
🐾
Exposure as a puppy also helps but if the dog has not had exposure don’t take it away from them teach them how to look at the world.
🐾
Check ins also are to be rewarded as well this is KEY!

Group training in real life pictures as in walking around the neighborhood. Facing loose dogs and training around dogs that are going crazy in the yard! All the handlers got experience where the holes are in the training, as well to learn/correct when dealing with distractions when their own dogs gets out of controls.
-
Training is all about emotions. When dealing with loose dogs it’s hard to maintain your emotions because you don’t know how the situation will go. It’s always good to use a walking to stick to create distance between you and the loose dog, pepper spray for the aggressive dogs that don’t get the message. You’re there to protect your dog not letting them figuring out if the dog is nice or not.
No matter is the loose dog is nice or mean. Don’t take your chances, it takes one incident to make a behavioral problem! This is my WHOLE thing is to build strong/confident handlers.
