Friday evening Dog Talk!

How Is your relationship with your dog?
How do you interact with your dog?

I see it a lot many don’t know how to play with their dog without food or a ball. Without any of the food or ball a leaf becomes more interesting than the handler.
It’s not that the dog doesn’t love you at all, it means the relationship can be stronger in that area.
-
The main thing is what does your dog love to do with you?
Wrestling? Rough play? Chase? Barking?
These are some things to look at and examine when your dog has nothing around them besides YOU.
These ways of playing can help you improve your relationship with your dog outside the home. You can have your dogs full Engagement inside but what happens outside? Checking out? Reactive behaviors?
These behaviors can occur when they don’t have value/trust in the handler.
-
Playing tug of war: DONT ALWAY WIN and let your dog loose. Thats no fun right. Imagine if you always lose in a game and no what you do or how hard you fight nothing seems to work, you wouldnt want to play either right?
Making the dog feel good about winning makes them want to win again and again. This correlates
to the dog wanting to coming back to you to keep the game going. YOU ARE A POSITIVE THING WHEN YOUR DOG WINS AROUND YOU WHEN GOOD THINGS HAPPEN!
-
I Would like to challenge everyone to take all the controls off of their dog. E - collars, pinch collars, whatever you use to control the dog. Besides the leash andd flat collar.
Take them out in front of the house, use the same emotion when you come home from work and finally get to see your dog!

Your are completely stopped no moving, standing at the back of the leash ( handle of the leash)
Call their name (not a fast & hectic call) just call them as if they were right next to you. Once they turn around, (yes to mark the behavior) clap hands, they jump up push them away. They will come back for more. If the dog looks away after the first push walk a different direction from where They are looking.
Have them find you, once they find you (Yes) back to playing again.
-
When you do this part of the training record it so you cann see your progression.
-
A video will be posted soon about the training described!
-
This Is what i teach to all the dogs that cone into my care!
You MUST have positive value

Alaska Schutzhund Club's 2025 trial was a complete success. All three club members reached their goals, and we helped others reach theirs by earning their BHs. Congrats to all of the competitors and thanks to everyone who came out to support. We appreciate you.

Special thanks to Jacob for the fun weekend. He offered fair and consistent judging and openly shared his knowledge and wisdom. We hope you enjoyed your time in Alaska!
