During Dog Anxiety Awareness Week, we want to shine a light on a common trigger for anxious pups: boarding.

Even the friendliest, most well-adjusted dogs can experience stress when they’re away from home. Signs of anxiety during boarding may include:
• Panting or pacing
• Lack of appetite
• Excessive barking or whining
• Lethargy or withdrawal

Here are a few ways to ease your dog’s anxiety before boarding:
• Visit the facility beforehand to get your pet comfortable with the environment.
• Bring a familiar item (like a blanket or toy) with you or your pets scent.
• Try short trial stays before a long trip to build confidence.
• Ask about anti-anxiety support—we can recommend calming aids or medications when appropriate.

At Amherst Animal Hospital, we’re here to support both you and your pup every step of the way.

Have questions about pre-boarding prep or calming options? Give us a call at 440-282-5220

Parvo is preventable—and awareness can save lives.

Parvo Awareness Day is a reminder that this deadly virus is still a serious threat to puppies and unvaccinated dogs.

Here’s what every pet parent should know:

•Parvo spreads FAST: It’s highly contagious and can live in the environment for months.
•Symptoms to watch for: Lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea (often bloody), and loss of appetite.
•The best defense? VACCINATION. Puppies should begin their parvo vaccines at 6-8 weeks and continue on schedule.

If you’re unsure about your pet’s vaccination status, give us a call—we’re here to help keep your furry friend protected.
