🐾 Help Build a Better Future for Ames’ Animals! 🐾
Our community’s beloved animals deserve a safe, spacious, and well-equipped shelter — and the time to make that a reality is now. The current Ames Animal Shelter is bursting at the seams and in urgent need of a new home that can provide top-quality care and comfort for every furry friend who walks through its doors.

We encourage you to support a project that will give the Ames Animal Shelter the space and resources it needs to serve the animals in our community who need it most.

The amazing staff and dedicated volunteers need our support — every donation brings them one step closer to breaking ground on a brand-new facility, designed with love, safety, and the future in mind.

At just 8 weeks old, this little powerhouse stole hearts and handled her visit like a pro.

It is now! Mufasa was the best boy at his Annual Wellness Exam—purring, posing, and loving the attention from his team. 💙

Annual checkups are a big part of keeping our pets healthy and happy, and Mufasa made it look easy (and adorable)! 😻

I spy with my little eye..... a pipe cleaner! 🧐
Brenda gave everyone a scare when she decided to snack on a children’s craft pipe cleaner — and as you can see on her radiograph, it was tightly coiled!

Thankfully, her mom brought her to our Urgent Care team right away. After a thorough exam and confirmation of the object’s size and location, we were able to safely induce vomiting and retrieve it. 👏 Had the pipe cleaner been stretched out or closer to its full length, surgery would likely have been necessary — but because it remained tightly wound, this less invasive option was possible. 🙌

Brenda was closely monitored afterward and showed no further concerning signs, so she was able to head home the same day. She’s now back to her spunky self — and crafting safely with her big sister again! 😉🎨👯

🚨 We've recently seen a concerning rise in Parvovirus cases—affecting not only young, unvaccinated puppies, but also those that are partially vaccinated.

This highly contagious virus can be life-threatening, but early recognition and prevention make a huge difference. 🩺

🐾 To help protect your pup, Dr. Kuhfus wrote a helpful blog post explaining:
- What Parvovirus is
- The warning signs to watch for
- How you can stay ahead with proper veterinary care

🧠 Knowledge is power—and it could save your puppy’s life.

As we celebrate National Puppy Day (March 23rd), this month’s blog will highlight Parvovirus disease. As you can imagine, all of us at Somerset Veterinary Hospital LOVE puppies. What better way to start the day with a well puppy visit. The wiggles, the puppy breath, the baby barks – what’s not...
