The Honest Vet - this is for you.

We may have gone to the same school, sat in the same rooms at one point, but we grew up to be different people. You grew to be a publicly lauded beacon of influence in this community unaware or uncaring of the harm you cause. No one can keep a platform and influence without accountability. Hundreds of thousands of people look up to you, and you have in a sense betrayed them. You value honesty and transparency - this is exactly that.

You may have your feelings hurt by this, but I challenge you to think long and hard why that is. Because you wanna know what 'hurts people's feelings'? Racism, which kills people every day. White people, you and I, are inherently racist, even if our only manifestations of that are unconscious or implicit biases. It's not enough to not be "not racist". You need to be anti-racist. So here is to our commitment to be actively anti-racist, and do better, especially as white people in a predominantly white profession.

Bigotry isn't openly saying slurs or the K*K or Blackface only... It's the microaggressions, the greenlighting content that's hurtful, the jokes that aren't funny, and the centering of your own feelings as a white woman when someone says "hey this is hurting people". If that is confusing, please feel free to look up the pyramid of white supremacy for reference.

Privilege takes many forms, but one is the ability to hurt those around you while simultaneously thinking you're the victim. You have a unique opportunity to use your privilege and platform for good; this is your opportunity to do so.

May this uncomfortable moment in time contribute to a new evolution of being The Honest Vet.

(1:51) TDOV 2026 feels extra heavy today 😞

I know it's not surprising.

I know I shouldn't be shocked by anything this hateful country does.

But I'm just sad today.

International Women's Day 2026 🌷

(Sorry for the delay, my cross-posting failed)

Some of these names may be new to you. Some of them are badasses and my friends. Some of them are legacies that don't deserve to be forgotten, especially Dr. Chelsea Iennarella-Servantez and all the names on two of the last slides. Chelsea saved me in many ways and to this day, I am forever grateful to have known her.

So many women in this profession, and we still have:
β€’ A massive gender wage gap
β€’ "Maternity tax" for working mothers
β€’ More men in positions of power and leadership
β€’ More male administrators in veterinary schools.
β€’ Gender-based and sexual harassment from colleagues that goes unchecked

And so much more. This doesn't even get into the intersectionality of it all and how women of color (especially Black women), disabled women, q***r women, and so many others are harmed even further for their various identities.

The patriarchy harms us all. I hope you learned about some really amazing people with this post ❀️

🚨 KS SB244 enacted today 🚨

This puts transgender folks in so much danger. Any mismatch between how people present in the world and their identification puts them at risk of discrimination or violence.

This also will directly disenfranchise people in a time where voter suppression is already rampant in marginalized communities that are being pushed to jump through hoops to get identification to vote.

We are tired of people being apolitical.

We are tired of transphobic q***r people throwing their trans community under the bus.

We are tired of the demonization of q***r people by child prΓ—dators and rΓ—pists.

We are tired of companies and politicians practicing medicine without a license and ignoring medical professionals who know that gender affirming care saves lives.

We are tired of people with privilege staying silent.

We are tired of pretending that going to work everyday while this happens is fine.

Because none of this is fine.

Animal research saves lives. This is not up for debate.

There's a lot of misinformation out there about animal research, and what rules and regulations exist that allow us to have the scientific advancements we do thanks to animal models. These animals receive high quality veterinary care and extremely strict guidelines exist for their use in research. Good animal care ultimately leads to high quality research, so veterinary medicine is intricately intertwined with animal research, human health, and major advancements that change the lives of millions of people.

A lot of the recent push to shut down the ONPRC comes from the current administration being anti-science, pro-artificial intelligence and pro-capitalism. Animal rights groups like PCRM and PETA have also been campaigning to close down the ONPRC, without realizing the very animals they claim to care for are at risk of dying because of their actions.

We should always strive to make animal care and animal welfare better. Making the ONPRC a "sanctuary" doesn't do that. It is far more expensive to keep the Center as a sanctuary. The transition would likely lead to the euthanasia of so many animals due to many factors, will devastate research for years to come, will affect hundreds of people's jobs, and will ultimately harm people that would otherwise be helped by the research done.

The time to email them has passed but you can tune in Monday February 9, 2026 to the meeting (slide 10 for details).

You can learn more about animal research through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science, and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International. For specializing in laboratory animal medicine you can learn more through the Academy of Laboratory Animal Veterinary Technicians and Nurses and the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine.

This is just one example of how veterinary medicine is political. Animals and people will be affected when we stay silent.

More headlines being suppressed πŸͺΆ

Grateful to the people posting about this that informed me this is happening.

"You are on stolen land" is not an empty phrase. This government and their modern-day Gestapo (as Tim Walz put it) seems to not understand what being Indigenous means. Indigenous people are citizens of the United States, period. And their right to this land is far beyond this racist country's short existence.

Again, it's not about immigration or legality. It's about control and fear and f4scism.

This is America - bigoted and violent.

It sucks to feel stuck watching the harm committed by my country, and seeing my neighbors, community members, and people around the world kidnapped, harmed and killed by this country. I know it's not new behavior, and that the state has perpetuated violence against people since before it's origin. I still grieve what is happening now. Another shooting happened yesterday, if you didn't hear.

I am also angry that I didn't hear about Silverio Villegas GonzΓ‘lez and Keith Porter Jr. until Renee Good died. It shouldn't take a white woman dying for us to know and care as much as we do. Black and brown people have been sounding the alarms forever about the fatal violence and brutality they face. And that's why I included my slide about Say Her Name. That phrase is NOT for people like Renee Good, whose name will be known by the world because she's a white victim. The phrase is for the Black community and should NOT be co-opted.

I refuse to be silent in the face of people dying. If you don't like my last slide, I don't care. In the words of the Minneapolis mayor - "I dropped an F bomb, they killed someone".

We cannot be complacent in the face of violence.
