DID YOU KNOW: That rabies does not exist in Hawai'i.
The state has no resident populations of terrestrial rabies vectors like raccoons, foxes, or skunks, and the disease does not circulate among local wildlife or domestic animals.
Rare interceptions: On very rare occasions, rabid animals—such as a bat—have been intercepted at harbors after arriving in cargo containers from the mainland, but the virus has never established itself in the local ecosystem. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1517074/)
Human cases: Local exposure to rabies does not occur in Hawaii; any historical human cases in the islands involved infections acquired outside the state. (https://health.hawaii.gov/docd/disease_listing/rabies/)

Let's aim for that goal. Fewer and fewer reported cases. Please make sure your pet is up-to-date on it's vaccination.
