The heat is going to be no joke over the next several days. The heat index (feels like temperature) will likely go well into the triple digits, with some areas of Alachua County getting over 113°. Please see the below information from the US National Weather Service Jacksonville Florida:

WHAT, WHERE & WHEN

An extended period of potentially life-threatening heat will begin this weekend area-wide, featuring near record to record high temperatures in the upper 90s to low 100s, and warmer than normal low temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s which could extend heat related issues beyond sunset daily. These temperatures are expected to begin Saturday and continue through at least the beginning of next week. Combined with high humidity, this will drive heat indices to Heat Advisory criteria (108+ F), and potentially into Extreme Heat Warning criteria (113+ F) during peak heating. Attached is a graphic of expected maximum heat index through Monday for reference.

SAFETY MESSAGING

🔥Avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, especially during peak heating hours (late morning through early to mid evening)
Seek cool shelter, using fans and/or air conditioning as much as possible

💧Stay hydrated, drinking water even if you don't feel thirsty
Frequently check on those especially vulnerable, including elderly, children and pets

🚗Never leave kids or pets in vehicles - LOOK BEFORE YOU LOCK!
If you must be outside:

➡️Wear lightweight, light colored clothing
➡️Use sunscreen and wear a hat and sunglasses
➡️Take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors
➡️Limit strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day

Meet Dr. Kelly Bullett! 🐾

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Kelly Bullett to The Vet Center team as our new Associate Veterinarian! She’s already seeing patients, and we know you’ll love her just as much as we do.

Dr. Bullett graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017 and began her veterinary journey in Upstate New York before making her way back to Gainesville—where she truly feels at home.
She brings with her a special passion for senior pet care, particularly in palliative and end-of-life support. Her dedication to building long-term relationships with both pets and their families is at the heart of her approach, and she’s committed to helping animals age with dignity and comfort. When she’s not at the clinic, Dr. Bullett enjoys time with her husband and two young daughters, their lively bulldog Hank, and two beloved cats, London and Savannah. She loves traveling, cheering on the Gators, doing puzzles, and taking evening walks with her family.

Help us give her a warm welcome next time you’re in, and if your pet needs care, Dr. Bullett is now accepting appointments!

🎆The 4th of July is almost here! Make sure your pets are ready! 🎆🇺🇸

Loud noises, bright lights, and crowds can be overwhelming for pets. As we approach Independance Day, now is the time to prepare:

🐾Noise Aversion Support:
We’ve stocked up on safe medications to help reduce anxiety caused by fireworks and loud noises. Call us to discuss the best option for your pet.

🐾Identification for your pets!
Ensure your pet can be identified if they run off during fireworks. Make sure collars have a name tag with up to date contact information. We will also be discounting microchips through July 3rd. Call today to schedule a quick placement appointment!

🐾At-Home tips:
Keep pets indoors during fireworks.
Create a quiet space, and avoid leaving them alone if they’re anxious. Keep them busy and distracted with puzzle toys and chews. “Thundershirts” can be purchased online and are a great way to help soothe an anxious pet.

Let’s keep your pets safe, calm, and comfortable this holiday. Contact us today with any questions!

🚧 Heads Up, Pet Parents! 🚧

We wanted to give you a quick update about the parking situation at our building. Due to ongoing construction, some sections of the Publix parking lot are currently closed off.
❗️Please note, there may be loud noises from the construction site, which could be unsettling for some of our furry friends coming in. Make sure cats are in closed carriers and dogs are secured on leashes.
🐾
To make things easier for you: Feel free to pull up right to our front door, and we’ll happily bring your pets inside for you while you find a parking spot.
We truly appreciate your understanding and patience during this time. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Congratulations to Shane!

Dr. Brandenburg had the distinct honor of coating Shane during the White Coat Ceremony at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine for the Class of 2027. This significant event marks the transition from classroom instruction to clinical training and recognizes the dedication and accomplishments achieved during the first two years of veterinary education.

Shane previously worked as a technician at The Veterinary Center, and we are immensely proud to see him reach this important milestone. Congratulations, Shane, on this well-deserved achievement.
