“I am a Veterinarian at Advanced Vetcare (Balestier). I have a special interest in diagnostic imaging, in particular ultrasound. I perform the ultrasounds at Balestier which I find is a safe, non-invasive way to help diagnose diseases in our patients. I also work with a mobile ultrasound company and provide ultrasound services to other clinics. Prior to this, I spent a number of years at a clinic where I worked a lot with rabbits and small furries. The work with rabbits and small furries is quite different to dogs and cats. The health problems we see are very different and the care and handling of these patients needs special attention too. Their body language can be more subtle and they are more prone to stress so I try to minimize this as much as possible. I enjoy working at Balestier as we have a very experienced and dedicated team which allows us to help different species of animals, from the biggest dogs to the littlest hamsters. “

We recently performed a TPLO procedure that went smoothly!

TPLO, or Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy, is a surgery normally performed on dogs to repair torn cranial cruciate ligament—a pivotal ligament that helps stabilise the knee joint. The procedure results in pain-free and more comfortable movement for your dogs.

Why (and when) do we conduct an ultrasonography?

• it is a minimally stressful and useful diagnostic method to observe any changes or abnormalities in your pet’s organs

• it can be used to study heart conditions and look at the abdominal organs

• it provides confirmation of pregnancy and are generally considered to be a safe and effective measure with no risk to the litter

• it can be conducted quickly and safely as they are painless and there is no anaesthesia required

• it allows for earlier diagnosing of internal abnormalities, and identify nodules, masses, cysts and abscesses
