Our local "Kākā" having a party in the trees this evening. More than 20 of these native NZ parrots 🦜 a very distinctive "screech".

The New Zealand kākā (Nestor meridionalis) is a large species of parrot of the family Strigopidae found in New Zealand's native forests across the three main Islands of New Zealand. The species is often known by the abbreviated name kākā, although it shares this name with the recently extinct Norfolk kākā and Chatham kākā. Two subspecies of New Zealand kākā are recognised. It is endangered and has disappeared from much of its former range, though the re-introduction of North Island kākā at Zealandia in Wellington has led to an increasing population of the birds across the city.

📢 Introducing
BONNIE ❤️ (registered name: Buono Gambe)
15.3hh 11yr old SB Mare

Bonnie has been with us for 1week now. She never raced but has had 1 foal previously who is starting his trotting career now.

Bonnie is a sweet sensitive mare who can become anxious, so we are trying to take things slower with her. Even though she is 11years old, she was only backed this year (to our knowledge) and needs a confident reassuring soft rider to help her with getting comfortable under saddle. At this stage only staff will ride Bonnie till we feel she is comfortable and found her place in the herd.

Special thanks to Holly Robson at After The Race Whangarei for backing her and taking care of her. You've done an amazing job with both Major and Bonnie - we love them both ❤️

💨 WILD WEATHER 🌀
Sadly we have had to cancel all riding today (Wednesday 16th) and tomorrow (Thursday 17th April) due to the wild windy weather and rain 😫 we're CLOSED for Friday. Praying Saturday and Sunday will be fine 🙏🌤

Not a great April school holidays for all our kids who wanted to ride with us. We fit in as many as we could on Tuesday then decided to pull pit all our winter covers for the horses and I think they are really happy to have them on tonight.

Today we shifted the horses only to find about 15m of fence fallen over due to the wind and possibly Monty pushing on it 🙄 never a dull moment on a day off at the farm. Team effort to fix it - thanks Lara for your help!
