Someone asked me “What is it like in July”

So I thought I’d make a post out of it. July is the start of proper winter here in Wanaka. That means rainy days (often that means snow on the mountains 🤞🏼), there could be a beautiful frost, or clear blue skies, or the dreadful “inversion layer”

We are lucky we get to ride in lots of weather conditions. If it actually is pouring we will either reschedule or refund.

But Wanaka is amazing and more often we have beautiful days like the sunny ones.

The horses are so cute with their wooly winter coats, and ready to show you around beautiful lake Wanaka.

Our big rides are starting to be booked for spring and summer 🐎🏔️

If you are coming to New Zealand and you want an epic day out on a horse make sure you don’t wait too long booking your dream ride. Every summer we have to disappoint people because we are full. Since we only take 4 customers on these rides and we don’t run them every day they get filled up fast.

Remember these rides are for experienced riders only!

We do offer rides for beginners and intermediate riders too don’t worry.

We are super lucky we still get to ride in winter ❄️☃️

People ask us what it is like riding in the winter? Well these videos are from July last year and it definitely is chilly, but so cool with the snowy mountain tops, and the views are still just as incredible.

The snow line sits at about 600 metre altitude which means there is no snow on ground. We are lucky if we get a handful of days where it stays and makes it a true winter wonderland.

If you want to do it really well you go skiing or snowboarding in the morning, and join a horse ride in the afternoon. What an epic day that would be!! Its possible, we do it all the time 🏂🐎

Horse riding is so many things, and if you have ridden before you probably know this. But for many who come on a ride with us for the first time this is a special experience.

They come for something which is a horse ride but leave with many more things they didn’t expect to feel or experience.

Horses give us so much if we are open to it. They mirror how we feel, don’t care about your race, how rich you are, how well you are dressed, they see you for “you” which I find incredibly humbling.

What have horses given to you?

Looking for one more couple to complete our March retreat 🍷🐎🧘🏽‍♀️

After selling out our February retreat, we have just one room (Double ensuite) remaining for March 18-21.

Bringing the horses to their holiday destination, and Axel’s last day. It was a grey, cold, inversion kinda day to start with. We also had “Elle” with us to capture video footage for our new Youtube channel (stay tuned 👀)

I sort of had a plan, but knew it could work just as much as to fail. We choose who to ride and lead and which horses we thought were just gonna follow. It was half / half.

Turned out I didn’t quite choose the right horses, and also we probably needed 1 more rider. But after some attempts to mustering we decided it was probably easier to all walk for a walk, lead another one and once through the first gate we could let a few go.

This worked and once on the trail it was much more peaceful. It was as if we were on one big trail ride and all the horses were allowed to come along.

We made it to their area and let the rest go. Its always funny because they look at us like “now what” but a few will remember and wander off to find some nice grass.

We had a nice drink and snack and were reminiscing on the highlights of the last season. Talked about our best rides and memories, until we hopped in the truck and rode back home.

Thanks so much to the team and the amazing horses for another amazing season! Thank you Axel for joining us this summer, and let’s see what more we can do next year!

We are closing for our annual break from May 18th - July 1st. We will bring the horses to their holiday destination, which you will recognise if you’ve been on any of our bigger rides.

Let’s hope we come back to snowy top mountains, blue skies, and freshly made runs for us to go skiing and snowboarding as well.

Winter is an amazing time to come on a ride for that reason. Usually there is not much wind, the snow line sits at 600 metre altitude so we can still go for rides in the middle of winter.

Sorry if we are missing you during that time though!

It is so annoying that someone does this. Luckily we have so many amazing 5-star reviews that it doesn’t really affect us or our rating. Plus we know better and who we are and what we can deliver.

We are so grateful for all the amazing people that have come and visit, and have come back again even. I know you guys like seeing the “behind the scenes” and this is one side of it. Its important we don’t linger in the negative and focus on the positive, which we do!

One more day until we close, and give the horses a well deserved rest. They deserve it! They are the true super stars ✨🐎
