West Plains Rescue

West Plains Rescue Cat and kitten rescue in Invercargill, NZ. Registered charity. We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome cats and kittens from around Invercargill.

Every cat in our care is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted. We are able to work with neonatal kittens, can facilitate colony control, and TNR (trap neuter release). We are working on long term solutions to the stray cat population in Southland. Being a small organisation so we cannot take in large volumes of cats and kittens but we can offer advice, loan traps or equipment

to those in need and liaise with other rescue groups and organisations. Donations can be made to:

Congratulations Anthe!

This adoption is super special in more ways than one.

Anthe is lucky to be alive. She might have used a couple of her nine lives to get this far but she's now absolutely glowing and thriving! The battle to save her was so worth it.

Anthe's health yo-yoed. She would be healthy one week then crash, and the cycle repeated. She wasted away so much and syringe feeding began to feel like torture. We decided to try one last stint at the vets, where she spent several days getting intensive care. She perked up enough to leave and moved into foster care with Holly, one of our very experienced fosters who took on the burden of knowing she might still die. I didn't want to place that grief on someone else but Holly took on the responsibility and gave Anthe around the clock care to nurture her back to health.

It was a long road and not without its ups and downs. Anthe picked up ringworm in the days before she moved into foster care and this meant weeks and weeks of having to treat that on top of managing her other issues.

Several months on, Anthe is now a transformed kitten. She is extremely affectionate, glued to her human saviour, clever, playful and a truly delightful little gal.

Anthe, now Daffy, is Holly's very first foster fail in the many years she has been caring for rescue kittens. She gave her heart to this little kitten and that bond is unbreakable.

Thank you Holly. I look forward to seeing your updates on her and to see what other tricks she learns!

Congratulations Bagheera and T'Challa!

These brothers have been adopted together, so they can continue to wrestle, fight and explore together.

These two boys were so sweet and good natured, and pretty clean for little kittens too. They loved to play and lax in their hammock.

We are so happy for them to be heading off to start the rest of their life. Their new parents have been patiently waiting for the day to take them home. We hope they don't cause too much mischief ๐Ÿ˜Š

Congratulations Felix!

This sweet wee boy was the baby out of his siblings and got a little pushed around in the early days.

He's built a lot of resistance and learned to hold his own in the play fights, even catching up to his brother in weight!

Felix is off to a wonderful home where he will have another feline to keep him company and wonderful human parents to help him settle in.

Best of luck little Felix

The Witches are thriving in foster care and are almost ready to make the journey back to Rescue HQ in preparation for desexing next week.

Their foster mom says the girls are absolute gems, always helping her while she is working and keep her other cats entertained.

Moon has been with her foster parents for several months now and they have worked wonders with her. Here's what they have to say:

Meet Moon, AKA Moon Bug, Moon Bear, or Mooooonnn (when she has been mischievous).

She is a sweet, timid cat who is slowly coming out of her shell and building her confidence. She loves to play with toys, especially on her own at night.

She loves fluffy blankets and cosy places to hide, we believe she would best suit a quiet household where she is the sole focus.

Moon has been around other cats although seems to pick and choose which ones she likes. She has never ever shown aggression towards people, though she is easily spooked and would require someone with patience, willing to put time into building her trust. We don't recommend young kids, loud busy homes or dogs.

Moon is a sucker for a temptation or squeezee treat and will happily eat out of our hands. She doesnโ€™t seem to like her head or back touched very much, however that is slowly changing. Behind the nerves, Moon has such a gentle, playful personality that we hope someone will adore as much as we do.

Email [email protected] if you might have the right home for Moon

Congratulations Jeremy and Reid!

These brothers have been adopted together which we are so happy about. Reid is a bit needy and dramatic, Jeremy is calm and cuddly. Together they're a whirlwind of energy and entertainment.

These boys came to us as wild little hissy floof balls, and they're leaving us as confident, healthy kittens, ready to bring a lot of joy to their new family.
