Did you know your pet’s gut, brain and skin are constantly communicating?

🦠 Gut: A healthy gut supports digestion, nutrient absorption and immune balance – all important for healthy skin.

🧠 Brain: The gut and brain talk both ways. Gut health influences how your pet handles stress, and stress can affect digestion and inflammation.

🐾 Skin: Stress can lead to scratching, licking and overgrooming – and itchy skin creates more stress.

It’s all connected. That’s why we look beyond the itch.

A well-planned, species-appropriate raw diet supports good gut health and resilient skin.

It also provides slow-burning energy from healthy fats and quality animal protein, without the high-carb load of many processed foods – which may help support a calmer, more stable mood.

Alongside managing stress, environmental triggers and other factors, nutrition plays an important part in helping your pet feel their best – inside and out. Because a happy pet starts with a healthy foundation.

💙 Have you noticed a connection between your pet's emotions and their digestion or skin health?

Could something new be the answer to your pet's itch? 🐾

When a pet has persistent itchy skin, licky paws, ears that keep flaring up or digestive upsets, sometimes it helps to look at what's in their bowl.

A novel protein is simply a protein your pet hasn't eaten before. Swapping familiar proteins for something new can help us work out whether food is contributing to the itch.

A few things worth knowing:
🐕 Novel depends on your pet's history. What's new for one pet might be everyday food for another.
🍖 Everything counts. Treats, chews, table scraps and little extras can all affect the results.
🫀 It's not always all-or-nothing. Some pets who react to the meat from one animal still do well on its tripe or organs. If the reaction is significant, though, we may avoid that animal altogether to start with.
📅 Give it time. Most plans run for around 4–6 weeks, sometimes longer, and we'll check in along the way to see how your pet is going.
🩺 Food and vet care work together. Don't change prescribed medication without talking to your vet, and see your vet if skin is infected, sore or very inflamed.

Looking for our novel options? Look out for the blue price labels in-store, or select 'Novel Options' under the Dietary Needs filter online.

Not sure where to start? Pop into your local Raw Essentials store or chat with our nutrition team online. We'll help you find the right plan for your pet.
