๐ฃ Puppies Before Profit โ Bring in Breeder Laws! ๐ฃ
Today, weโre launching our Puppies Before Profit campaign, to raise awareness around New Zealandโs lack of dog breeding legislation and to build support for law reforms.
Currently, weโre FAR behind other countries when it comes to dog breeding laws. In New Zealand:
๐พ Anyone can breed and sell puppies
๐พ There are no restrictions on the number of breeding dogs a person can keep
๐พ There are no minimum supervision levels
๐พ There are no minimum or maximum ages for breeding
๐พ There are no maximum number of litters across a dogโs lifetime
๐พ There are no restrictions on close inbreeding.
Despite the current lack of specific rules, our recently commissioned survey found that 96% of New Zealanders think dog breeding should be regulated.
This isnโt a niche animal welfare issue. Itโs something that New Zealanders deeply care about. We need clear, enforceable standards that apply to all breeders, and ensure every breeding dog receives appropriate care โค๏ธ
