🟢 Saturday Double at Te Rapa

Wind Rush, ridden by Ryan Elliot, kicked things off with a strong win in the Saddlery Warehouse 1600m MDN🫡

Val Di Zoldo took out the major on the card the G2 Travis Stakes perfectly ridden by Wiremu Pinn 🤌

We also had solid performances with Honey Badger and Arundel Castle both finishing 4th.

WANGANUI RACES

We’ve had a successful saturday with Wind Rush and Val Di Zoldo taking wins at Te Rapa, fingers crossed we can make it three for the weekend with our two runners at Wanganui. Both 2yo fillies have made the trip down on Saturday without a worry in the world.

RACE 1 - 12.26pm
PINK GIN : A tough little filly who tries hard but has had wide gate draws to contend with, and another 🙈today. She does have the advantage of race day experience under her belt and hopefully we get to see her break that maiden status soon. Has Jasmine Fawcett on board carying 55kgs.

PRINCESS ELSA : up against stable mate in the small but competitive field. She also has race day experience and was only beaten by a nose here at Wanganui earlier on in the season. Strips fit and has senior jock Craig Grylls on board.

READ: Val Di Zoldo’s (NZ) (War Decree) victory in the Gr.2 Travis Stakes (2000m) at Te Rapa on Saturday showed what a difference a year can make. The $150,000 fillies and mares’ feature capped an autumn black-type double, who was a last-start winner of the Gr.3 Manawatu Breeders’ Stakes (2050m) at Wanganui on April 5.

TE RAPA RACES - Thankfully closer to home than the Awapuni disaster. Makes us think twice about transporting horses to support the CD these days with the huge financial costs to trainers and their owners. Not to mention the hours of travelling for both staff and horses. Lets not get started and move onto our busy day at Te Rapa with 9 runners. 🙈🙈

RACE 2 - 12.48pm
NKOSI : - 5th 👍He has come up nicely since his last barrier trial and although a competitive field he has drawn well in gate 3. If he can get a nice trip throughout he should be a solid place chance with improvement to come.

WIND RUSH - 1st 💪🏼💪🏼: Blinkers have come off after racing a touch keen last start. He jumps from gate 2 which should set him up nicely over the 1600mts with plenty of tempo in the race. Looks a good each way chance with Ryan Elliot on board.

RACE 3 - 1.21pm
ARUNDEL CASTLE : - 4th 👏👏Runs in the open 3yo mile where he continues to work and look in fantastic condition. Unfortunately drawn wide so will need some luck in this strong field but he continues to please and is definitely a lovely 4yo in the making.

RACE 4 - 1.55pm
ARGO : 6th 👍On debut from gate 2 which is always an advantage in these 2yo races. He's trailed up well, and his work ethic and attitude are very professional, one to watch going forward.

RACE 5 - 2.27pm
WITZ END - 6th 🙉🙉: He's taken great improvement from his last fresh up run, he has drawn a touch awkwardly in gate 7 but hopefully he can get nice trip as we think he is a genuine each way chance.

RACE 6 - 3.02pm
POETIC CHAMPION - 5th 👌🏼: Runs in the Group 3 Cambridge Breeders Stakes after a strong trial win. He looks forward enough to be competitive once again with regular rider Matt cartwright in the saddle.

RACE 8 - 4.12pm
VAL di ZOLDO : - 1st ⭐️⭐️⭐️She is in solid form after winning her last start at Whanganui and gets to have another crack at the Travis Stakes where she was unlucky last year. Drawn nicely in gate 2 but there does look to be plenty of tempo in the field and will need some luck on straightening to be competitive once again. Wiremu Pinn takes the ride with 57kgs.

RACE 9 - 4.47pm
HONEY BADGER : Steps up to 1400mts from gate 6 giving Matt Cartwright a few options early on. There looks to be some speed in the race although a weaker field to what she has previously raced in. Some rain is forecasted later in the day and if it arrives, this will be an advantage to her.

After a long but successful day at Rurakaka Trials we have just the one runner starting at Pukekohe on Wednesday.

RACE 7 - 3.50pm
CAST OF DIAMONDS : - 2nd 🙈 Runs over 2100mts which should suit him from gate 2. Fingers crossed for some sunshine as the day progresses to improve track conditions. He's worked well since his last start and strips fitter. Ryan Elliot takes the ride with 56.5kgs.
