😻Ghost’s Recovery Story: From Breathing Trouble to Back to Purring 😻

Pyothorax is a serious condition where pus accumulates within the chest cavity, making it difficult for cats to breathe.

Ghost’s devoted owners noticed he was struggling to breathe and brought him to Pet Vets promptly. After blood tests, chest X-rays, and fluid analysis, Ghost was diagnosed with pyothorax caused by a bacterial infection.

He underwent chest drainage, placement of a chest drain with regular flushing, and a carefully managed course of antibiotics. Thanks to early intervention, dedicated care, and one very brave patient, Ghost made a full recovery! 💙🐱

🐾Breathing difficulties in pets should never be ignored. If your cat is breathing rapidly, struggling to breathe, lethargic, or off food, seek veterinary attention promptly.🐾

👩‍⚕️🥳 New Team Member Alert! Please welcome Joanne! 🥳👩‍⚕️

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Joanne to the clinic! Joanne recently graduated from Unitec with her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing. While she is fresh out of study, she is certainly not new to animal care! Joanne spent years working as a zookeeper, taking care of a spectacular range of creatures from tiny rabbits to massive crocodiles.
She loves all aspects of nursing and is always eager to learn new skills to care for your fur-babies.When she isn’t at the clinic, Joanne enjoys playing games, reading, and exploring nature. Back home, she keeps busy looking after her own miniature zoo: four cats and a dog! 🐶🐱🐾

🐶🐾ADAPTIL Junior Promo🐶🐾

ADAPTIL collars are drug-free, pheromone-releasing collars designed to help dogs feel calm and secure in stressful situations. They work by mimicking the natural "appeasing pheromones" a mother dog releases to comfort her puppies.

💙Team at Pet Vets is always happy to help and quide with anxiety in new pups. Managing anxiety in young pups will help to set them up for a happy and relaxed behaviour later in life.

🐾ADAPTIL Junior is the effective solution to comfort newly adopted puppies and facilitate their education. Comforts puppies through the challenges of adoption and beyond. Helps prevent crying all night, support for staying home alone, loud noises or puppy car travel. Promotes better socialisation and improves learning (at puppy training classes).

🐾Ensure continuous support to your puppy during the socialisation period (from adoption to 6 months old) by using a new collar every month.

💙Key Benefits:
Just put the collar around your puppy’s neck and adjust it
Then leave the collar on your puppy continuously (except during shampoo)
Each collar provides 4 weeks of constant support.

🐱🐶Is your pet due their annual health check?

Two years old Elmo came in for a health check and vaccination recently. He was such a happy boy and it was pleasure to see him keeping in such a great health!💙

Annual exams are one of the simplest ways to protect your pet’s health. Pets can’t tell us when something feels “off,” and many illnesses start with subtle signs that are easy to miss at home. A routine visit allows us to monitor changes, keep vaccines up to date, and catch concerns early—when they’re easiest to treat.
🐾Whether they’re a playful pup, a curious cat or a golden oldie, a yearly exam is one of the most important steps in preventative care. We can do further health screening by doing blood test and answer any of your other concerns!
💙If it’s been a while, why not book them in this month?

🌧️🐾 **Severe Weather Reminder: Keep Your Pets Safe** 🐾🌧️

Severe storms can be very stressful for pets. Little planning can make a big difference.

**Here are a few important things to check:**

🏠 **Provide safe shelter** – Ensure your pets have a secure, dry space away from strong winds and flooding. Bring outdoor animals inside if possible.

🔒 **Check fences and gates** – High winds and noise can startle pets and lead to escapes.

🏷️ **Update identification** – Make sure your pet is wearing ID and that their microchip details are up to date on the NZ Companion Animal Register:

🎒 **Prepare a pet emergency kit** – Include food, water, medications, leads, carriers, and comfort items in case you need to leave quickly.

🐕 **Avoid walks during severe weather** – Strong winds, debris, and flooding can be dangerous.

💛 **Create a calm space** – If your pet is prone to anxiety during storms, set up a quiet, secure area where they can feel safe.

⚠️ **Important:** Keep animals away from floodwater, as it may be contaminated with waste or chemicals.

🧐After the storm: Check for hazards before letting pets outside and watch for signs of stress or injury

Stay safe this weekend everyone, and please contact us if you have any concerns about your pet before or after the storm 💙🐾

🐾 Meet Dr Linda Liu – Our New Veterinarian! 🐾

We’re excited to welcome Dr Linda Liu to our team!

Linda graduated (BVSc.) from Massey University, New Zealand in December 2016. Now in her tenth year of practice, Linda has a special passion for companion animal medicine and dermatology — helping pets feel comfortable in their own skin (quite literally!).

She believes great veterinary care starts with taking the time to listen, explain, and ensure you feel confident making the best decisions for your pet’s health.

🌏 Linda also speaks Mandarin, making it easier for us to support and connect with a wider community of pet owners.

🌿 Outside of the clinic, Linda enjoys tramping and dancing, making the most of New Zealand’s beautiful outdoors and creative spaces.

We’re thrilled to have her on board and can’t wait for you and your pets to meet her! 🐶🐱
