Chloe popped in for her check-up, and Albi came along to provide some very important moral support.

We're not sure if Albi was there to hold Chloe's paw, supervise the appointment, or just make sure nobody missed out on treats, but either way, we love a supportive sidekick!

Three times the cuteness, three times the fun!

Doug, Gloria and Frankie popped in for a visit, and we're pretty sure they had their priorities sorted. Say hello to the lovely team, collect as many treats as possible, and look ridiculously cute while doing it!

Safe to say, our team were more than happy to spoil these three adorable visitors. Who could resist those faces?

We have a deceased cat that was brought into our St Heliers clinic today.

Intact male Domestic Short hair found on Taniwha Street, Glenn Innes. Brown tabby approximately 8am this morning. We have photos if someone requests for confirmation. Seems to be in quite good condition, We'd estimate 2 years old at least. We'll hold on to him for a couple weeks unless an owner comes forward.

Meet gorgeous Molly, who recently came in for her Senior Wellness Check. 🐱❤️

As our cats get older, regular health checks become even more important. Cats are incredibly good at hiding when something isn’t quite right, and changes can be subtle enough that we don’t always notice them at home.

Senior wellness checks give us the opportunity to look for early signs of common age-related conditions, including changes in kidney function, thyroid health, blood pressure, weight, mobility, dental health and more.

Finding changes early can make a big difference. It can give us more options for treatment or management and help keep our senior cats comfortable and enjoying the things they love for as long as possible.

And remember, slowing down isn’t always “just old age”. If you’ve noticed changes in your older cat’s appetite, drinking, weight, toileting, mobility, grooming or behaviour, it’s worth having a chat with your vet.

Molly certainly looks like she’s taking her senior health responsibilities very seriously!

“Did we just become best friends?”

We think the answer might be YES. 🐶🐱

Meet Afi, one of our vets’ new puppies, and Clyde, one of our nurses’ new kittens, meeting for the very first time at the clinic.

There was a little investigating, some careful introductions and, we suspect, the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

One of the definite perks of working at Veterinary Hospital Group? Getting to have meetings like this during your workday.

We’re looking forward to watching these two grow up together. Although we have a feeling there could be plenty of mischief ahead!

Behind so many of the animals who walk through our doors is a vet nurse quietly making everything a little bit better.

They’re the arms holding the nervous dog.

The gentle voice reassuring the frightened cat.

The person sneaking treats to a patient who has finally decided maybe the vet isn’t quite so terrible after all.

They’re cleaning kennels, monitoring anaesthetics, taking blood, assisting with procedures, administering medications, answering questions and watching for the tiny changes that tell them something isn’t quite right.

They get peed on.

Pooed on.

Bled on.

Drooled on.

Occasionally bitten or scratched.

And very regularly covered in fur.

But there’s another side to vet nursing that is harder to see.

They become attached.

They remember your pets.

They celebrate when the patient they’ve been nursing finally goes home.

They worry about the really sick ones after their shift has finished.

And when an animal they have cared for doesn’t make it, they grieve too.

Then somehow, they come back the next day and give their hearts to the next patient who needs them.

That combination of knowledge, skill, compassion and a slightly concerning tolerance for bodily fluids is something pretty special.

So during Vet Nurse Appreciation Week, we’re celebrating the wonderful nurses across Veterinary Hospital Group.

Thank you for loving our patients on their best days, their worst days, and every messy moment in between.

Veterinary medicine simply wouldn’t work without you. ❤️

It’s Vet Nurse Appreciation Week, and there are some people we really need to talk about.

Our incredible vet nurses.

They’re there for the cuddles, the kisses and the happy reunions.

But they’re also there for the mess. The blood. The vomit. The poo. The wee. The a**l glands. And all the other things we probably shouldn’t mention while you’re eating lunch.

They hold nervous paws and comfort frightened animals. They find ways to make scared patients feel safe, even when that patient is doing their absolute best to bite, scratch or escape.

They monitor anaesthetics, take blood, place catheters, assist in surgery, care for hospital patients and somehow manage to keep track of a million things happening at once.

They sit with animals waking up from surgery so they aren’t alone.

They celebrate the wins.

And they feel the losses.

Sometimes they cuddle an animal while a family says goodbye, then wipe away their tears and walk into the next consult with a smile because another patient needs them.

Vet nursing is messy, exhausting, emotional and sometimes heartbreaking.

It is also filled with love.

This week, we want to say a huge thank you to every one of the amazing vet nurses across Veterinary Hospital Group.

For every cuddle, every cleaned-up mess, every patient you advocate for, every worried owner you reassure and every animal you love like they were your own.

We see you.

And we appreciate you more than you know. ❤️

This is Eden’s story. ❤️

Back in June, one of our clients found Eden on the side of the road, barely moving, and brought her into Veterinary Hospital Group for help.

As luck would have it, Ange from Sweet Noah Animal Rescue happened to be at the clinic for an appointment that day. She took one look at Eden and decided on the spot that she was coming into their care.

At just six months old, Eden was suffering from one of the worst cases of demodectic mange with severe secondary pyoderma our team had seen. Her skin was incredibly painful and inflamed, and even the gentlest touch could make her cry.

With treatment, her skin began improving every day. But Eden’s little body had already been through so much.

Just a week later, she returned for an appointment with a distended abdomen and swelling across her body. She was referred to a cardiologist, where she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.

Fast forward three months and look at her now!

Eden has taken her medication like an absolute champion, her heart is almost back to normal, her skin has made an incredible transformation, and she’s well on her way to full health.

Best of all, her personality is coming through. The little diva she was always meant to be has arrived, and she’ll soon be getting ready to find her forever home, hopefully with a doggy brother or sister who can teach her all about being a proper dog!

Eden’s journey is also a reminder that skin problems aren’t always “just a bit of itching”. They can be painful, uncomfortable and sometimes a sign that your pet needs veterinary help.

Over the next two months, we will be putting the spotlight on dermatology and skin health. We’ll be sharing information about some of the common skin problems we see, what signs to look out for, and ways we can help keep your pets comfortable.

And keep an eye out, because there may be some dermatology specials and a few prizes coming your way too! 👀🐾

Well... we had a good run. 💩

Chopie has officially reset the “days without p**p in reception” counter back to ZERO.

And judging by that face, he has absolutely no regrets about it.

No shame. No apology. Not even pretending it was an accident.

Lucky for Chopie he’s ridiculously cute, because apparently reception is his bathroom and we all just work here. 😂
